Cult Following is the 3rd main story mission in Borderlands 3 (BL3). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Cult Following Main Quest.
Cult Following is unlocked when you complete From the Ground Up.
Planet: Pandora

- Drive Vehicle to Catch-a-Ride
- Go to Holy Broadcast Center
- Find the Sun Smashers / Kill Mouthpiece
- Get Vault Map
- Talk to Lillith
Starting Location: Cult Following
The quest starts immediately upon completing From the Ground Up.
Go to Ellie’s
Your first objective is to head to Ellie’s junkyard. It’s very close by and gets marked on your map (see first image below). Once you get there, a cutscene will play in which you see Ellie (2nd screenshot).
Speak to Ellie
Simply speak to Ellie. She’ll see that you’re looking for a vehicle and send you on your way to get one.
Take Vehicle / Hijack Vehicle
From the junkyard, follow the path up the hill. Kill the enemies along the way and you’ll come to the Super 87 Racetrack. You can see some cars driving in circles here. Walk up to one of them and hit the reload button (PS4) / (XB1) to hijack it. Your very first vehicle in Borderlands 3! You can fire the guns with / . Push the left stick up to accelerate and left stick down to brake. Use the right stick to steer.
Drive Vehicle to Catch-a-Ride
Drive the vehicle to the Catch-a-Ride Station by Ellie’s Garage (marked on your HUD and map). Along the way some other cars will attack you, so shoot them to pieces. If you get hit, your car’s health automatically generates after a few seconds. Park the vehicle on the Catch-a-Ride pad to add it to your list – now you can summon this vehicle at any time from any Catch-a-Ride station. Your first Borderlands 3 Vehicle officially unlocked! We’ll have to make use of it right away as we need to head to the other end of the map which would be too tedious to walk.
Good to know: To unlock new vehicles and vehicle parts, steal the vehicles of enemies that drive around the map! Bring them back to any Catch-a-Ride Station and if the vehicle has a new part (e.g. a new vehicle weapon) it will be added to your list. Then you can customize your ride and equip the new parts. New vehicles are found on later planets but you can already find a few new parts on Pandora.
Go to Holy Broadcast Center
From the Catch-a-Ride, you will have to travel to the extreme north of The Droughts in order to find the entrance to Ascension Bluff.
Don’t let the sign fool you. Once inside Ascension Bluff, you’ll still have to travel all the way to the other side of the area to reach the location of the Holy Broadcast Center.
Along the way you can even take on one of Hammerlock’s Legendary Hunts, if you feel like you’re up to the challenge of hunting the mighty Skrakk (which I can only assume is the unholy lovechild of a Skag and a Rakk).
If you decide to take on this abomination, instead of going for head shots, be sure to aim for the base of its wings where they meet its back to get a critical hit.
Find Sun Smashers
Keep going towards the waypoint, and be prepared for lots of Psychos, Fanatics and Tinks as you approach the Holy Broadcast Center. Take your time clearing out this area, or you could easily be surrounded. On the end of the road on the left side is a climbing path that lets you circle behind the enemies and around the turret.
Once inside the Holy Broadcast Center, don’t be confused by all the dead husks just standing around. They pose no threat, so don’t waste any ammunition.
Keep following the waypoint and be prepared to kill a ton of Fanatics, Tinks, and Tink Sentries along the way. Be sure to scrounge ammunition from all the lootable objects in each room before proceeding. You’ll need it.
A good lesson to learn along the way to the boss, is to pay attention to the large speakers that you’ll encounter.
As you approach them, you’ll see them start to glow red and vibrate. Back off quickly otherwise you’ll be caught in a devastating sonic attack.
You’ll have a chance to stock up on ammunition and health in the last room just before the boss fight, so be sure to take the hint before diving into the next room.
Kill Mouthpiece
Dropping down into the final room you’ll be introduced to Mouthpiece and a lot of his Tink private guards called Apocolytes. They will swarm you while Mouthpiece hangs back and hits you with sonic attacks.
He will put up his graphic equalizer shield to block your gunfire, but his fat head will still be sticking over the top making for an easy target.
Also during the fight be sure not to linger around the center or edges of the room for too long, as there are stacks of speakers that will also unleash a sonic attack at anyone who gets too close. When they start glowing red, back off and regroup.
Keeping the Tinks at bay will likely provide you with a steady stream of ammunition to keep you going, so just keep shooting Mouthpiece in the head until he succumbs.
Get Vault Map
Once Mouthpiece is dead, among the lootsplosion his body unleashes you’ll find the conical Vault Map lying on the ground near him.
Pick it up, but before you head back to Lillith, along the paths that lead around the final area, make sure to grab the Head Case side mission on your way out.
You can easily complete this Side Mission on your way back to Lillith, so don’t be too quick to fast travel!
Talk to Lillith
Travel all the way back to the Crimson Raiders’ temporary hideout and talk to Lillith to complete the mission.
This finishes Cult Following main mission in Borderlands 3. Now the next quest Taking Flight becomes available.
