Introduction
Welcome to the A Plague Tale: Innocence Trophy Guide! Follow the grim tale of young Amicia and her little brother Hugo in a heart-wrenching journey through one of the darkest times in a France infested by plague. Hunted by the Inquisition and surrounded by deadly swarms of rats, siblings Amicia and Hugo de Rune will get to know each better and trust one another. As they struggle to survive against overwhelming odds, they will fight to find purpose in this brutal and unforgiving world.
This is an easy and very fun platinum to add to your collection. For the platinum you need to play the story (16 Chapters + Epilogue), find some collectibles (Hugo’s Herbariums, Gifts, Curiosities, Alchemist Carts), and fulfill certain chapter-specific requirements. Completing each story chapter awards you one trophy. As you play, Chapter Selection unlocks, giving you the opportunity to mop up chapter-specific trophies and collectibles after the story, so nothing is missable. Just grab what you can find and get everything else after the story or do everything in one go by checking our Collectibles Locations Guide and Full Walkthrough for all Story Chapters. The choice is yours.
Step 1: Play through the Story and Gather As Many Crafting Materials As You Can for “Not a toy anymore” and “Handfull of pockets”
The first step is to play through the story without worrying too much about collectibles and chapter-specific trophies. They can be easily tackled through Chapter Selection during step 2. What you really want to keep an eye out for is to gather as many crafting materials as possible right from the start. Ideally you want to try and upgrade your Sling and Equipment in one single playthrough. This, however, requires you to be on the lookout for crafting materials at all times and to do so you need to scour every nook and cranny of each chapter. Also, it’s important to upgrade your pockets to a minimum of level 2 in order to even be able to hold enough crafting materials to upgrade either one. Because of lack of space, you won’t have enough space and you’ll miss some materials at the start of the game. In any case, play through the end but focus your crafting materials only on either the Sling or Equipment and ignore Alchemy altogether. Alchemy doesn’t really make a difference in terms of decreasing the difficulty. If you do so, you should have either one fully upgraded as you approach the end of the game (3/4 into the story). Then, replay some of the endgame chapters, starting with one you knew you had lots of materials in but this time continue playing focusing on what’s left (either Sling or Equipment depending on what you decided to power up first on your main playthrough) until it’s fully powered up. Check Step 3 for more information about this.
Step 2: Chapter Selection for Collectibles Mop-Up and Chapter-Specific Trophies
This step is optional, depending on how you’ve decided to go about the story. Now that you’ve finished it, use Chapter Selection accessible from the game’s main menu to mop up remaining collectibles and chapter-specific trophies.
Refer to the Collectible Guide to locate what you’re missing: A Plague Tale Innocence All Collectible Locations
Step 3: Finish upgrading the Sling or Equipment
This step is optional, depending on how meticulous you were in your exploration while playing the story. If you need more materials to finish powering up your Sling and Equipment, starting with Chapter 9 and playing back-to-back until Chapter 12 included is a good idea. If you’ve been thorough in your exploration up until Chapter 9, you should only have a dozen of crafting materials left to completely powering up either one.

Not a toy anymore Fully upgrade the sling |
||
Chapter 2 – The Strangers introduces the game’s crafting mechanics. To upgrade your Sling, you can either use the workbenches you find in the next chapters or take advantage of the crafting menu using which allows you to upgrade your Sling on the go. The Sling has three upgrade levels for two different categories, Strings and Pouch. To completely upgrade it you need to complete each upgrade level for both categories. To move to the next level, you need to have the right type and amount of crafting materials needed for that specific upgrade. Each chapter has lots of crafting materials, but for some of them, such as fabric, cord, and leather, the game isn’t exactly generous. Make it a point to be thorough in your exploration to avoid having to replay chapters for missing materials.
To be clear, the materials cannot be farmed. When you replay from an earlier chapter (e.g. chapter 9) it will reset the materials back to what you had when you first played the chapter during the story. Then, you have to be thorough from there on out and replay the upcoming chapters until you got enough upgrade materials. It will only save newly found materials when playing chapters back to back in their chronological order. For example, after completing chapter 9 again you will have the newly found materials available in chapter 10, then play chapter 10, chapter 11 and so on. But you can’t skip chapters, e.g. jumping from chapter 9 to chapter 11 will NOT carry over your newly found materials. So, start focusing on upgrade materials early on and focus on one upgrade list at a time (Sling or Equipment). If you end up short on some upgrades, try replaying chapters 9, 10, 11, and 12 back to back as they contain a lot of materials. Once you have fully upgraded the Sling, the trophy will pop. |

Handfull of pockets Fully upgrade the equipment |
||
Chapter 2 – The Strangers introduces the game’s crafting mechanics. To upgrade your Equipment, you can either use the workbenches you find in the next chapters or take advantage of the crafting menu using which allows you to upgrade your Equipment on the go. The Equipment has three upgrade levels for three different categories, Pocket, Ammunition Bag, and Attirail. To completely upgrade it you need to complete each upgrade level for all categories.

Alchemist Craft 100 ammunitions |
||
This trophy will most likely unlock naturally as you play the story. There are several ammunition types in A Plague Tale: Innocence, such as Ignifer, Devorantis, Luminosa, and Odoris. Ammunition types are used for different purposes and for most of these Amicia will craft two projectiles. This means that you need to craft ammunitions 50 times for the most commonly used ones (mainly Ignifer). You can reload checkpoints to get this trophy out of the way early if you want. | ||

More practice Complete the aiming training |
||
Unlocked in: Chapter 1 – The De Rune Legacy
In the De Rune’s estate is an area where Amicia can get further training for her sling. To get to the training ground, you can use the pictures below. The trophy will unlock once all pots have been destroyed. |
||
Feeding the hungry Find a lunch for Hugo |
||
Unlocked in: Chapter 2 – The Strangers
In Chapter 2 Hugo repeatedly says he’s hungry. Somewhere in the village is an apple tree that, despite the plague, is still bearing fruit. Use the pictures below to get to the tree. Then, use to pick up an apple and give it to Hugo. When Hugo bites the apple, the trophy will unlock. |
||
Found! Play hide-and-seek |
||
Unlocked in: Chapter 4 – The Apprentice
After the first stealth section in chapter 4, Amicia and Hugo will find an area with lots of small trees with red and yellow leaves. Here Hugo will let go of your hand because he wants to play hide-and-seek. To unlock this trophy, you need to sneak up on and find Hugo before he finds you. Use to be quiet. Use the pictures below for the right path to take. |
||
Savior Save a soldier |
||
Unlocked in: Chapter 5 – The Ravens’ Spoils
After shooting down the corpses hanging from a tree, you’ll need to enter a wooden structure. Here is a soldier that begs us to be saved. To unlock the trophy, here’s what you need to do: first, grab the torch from the mounting spot. Then, immediately after crossing the first opening, turn the camera to the left to find a new mountain spot for the torch. Place the torch here. Then, cast Ignifer at the torch next to the soldier. Doing so will save the soldier from certain death. When he thanks you, the trophy will pop. |
||
Tribute Find the tomb |
||
Unlocked in: Chapter 8 – Our Home
Shortly after the beginning of chapter 8, Hugo wants to show you what he’s found in your new home. When he wants you to follow him to Lucas’s laboratory, don’t go in yet. Instead, keep going down the stairs until you get to a tomb. Interact with the tomb by pressing and when Hugo and Amicia finish preying, the trophy will unlock. |
||
The hard way Enter through the main door |
||
Unlocked in: Chapter 9 – In the Shadow of Ramparts
When you reach the University building, you’ll notice two enemies standing guard opposite the main door. While you can simply enter the building using the unguarded side entrance, for this trophy you need to get rid of those two guards and enter using the door behind them. One guard has a big shield protecting him from most projectiles, while the other just wears a helmet. For this trophy, I lured both guards to the previous rat area and used Odoris to have the rats take care of them. If that doesn’t work, you can always try and use Devorantis and rocks to take them down, but this requires good aim, especially for the guy holding a shield. Once you’ve made quick work of both guards, enter the building from the main door and the trophy should unlock as the chapter ends. |
||
Merciful Save the dying |
||
Unlocked in: Chapter 12 – All That Remains
Shortly after the beginning of Chapter 12, you will come across two dying soldiers leaning against a wall and a cart respectively. The soldier by the wall cannot be killed as there’s a glass torch above him that cannot be doused. For this trophy to pop, do not use Exstinguis on the torch above the second soldier or else the rats will eat him. Instead, use Exstinguis on the brazier north-west of you and then Odoris in the same spot. This will kill two birds with one stone: you will be able to safely cross and you will also show the soldier mercy by not feeding him to the rats. The trophy should unlock after unlocking the big wooden door. Use the pictures below if you need visual reference.
|
||
Captain Sidekick Stay with the captain |
||
Unlocked in: Chapter 14 – Blood Ties
For this trophy you don’t have to stay with Lord Nicholas. Quite the opposite instead: to unlock this trophy you need to get ahead of Lord Nicholas and enter the door he would use if you actually followed him, enter the room in front of you and hide beneath a table. To do this, you need to take advantage of a quick opportunity window during which Lord Nicholas stops for a moment to talk to a monk in the garden. To make this all easier, use the pictures below for visual reference. Once you hide under the table, the trophy should pop. |
||
The Blacksmith Find Rodric’s forge |
||
Unlocked in: Chapter 16 – Coronation
In the area where you save the townspeople is a gate to the right of the way you came from. The gate is locked from the other side. Next to the wooden objects on fire is an alleyway where rats have built a nest. Walk down this alley, then turn your camera around to see the gate’s lock. Cast a rock to unlock the door and then go back to go through the gate. At the end of this road is Rodric’s old forgery. After Rodric finishes talking, the trophy should pop. |
A RAGE 2 Plague Tale says
I got this game and thank you for guide. I will start this after RAGE 2.
So do you know if any missable trophies in RAGE 2? Because if do then I avoid game until guide is up for it.
David Nicholls says
I have platinum on rage 2. There are no missable trophies at all.
Techno86Rebel says
Yes you have missable trophy for destroying dron on outpost ? First upgrade vision to have ability to see drones.
Braedyn says
Thanks for the guife!
Will you write the guide for Rage 2?
Soul of Cinder says
So if I complete the game and, let’s say, restart chapter 9, all progress I’ve done towards upgrading the sling etc. post chapter 9, will still be there?
FranciRoosters says
The progress of your original playthrough will not be overwritten. You can replay chapters as many time as you like, but what you do in them when you replay them won’t change what you did the first time unless you decide to replay the game until the very end, each chapter back-to-back.
whiteriver087 says
I don’t understand the Handfull of Pockets trophy???
I beat the game. And the in the last chapter save I still missing 7 leathers
now what do I do??
replay the 9 10 11 12 mission?? These material wil carry to the last chapter save??
FranciRoosters says
No, your materials will revert back to the state they were in chapter 9. Replaying a few chapters starting with 9 back to back will give you a chance to focus all of your materials on just the equipment or sling.
AceMin says
Not Bad. Not Bad game. It impressive to see how much thought the developers gave to this game. I give it an 8 for now since I won’t be playing it for some time since I’m studying.
Great Job on the Guide!
Its Gonna be very helpful to others!
FranciRoosters says
Thanks so much for your feedback, and yes the game is great, at the very top with other great adventure games such as U4 and God of War in my opinion.
Sophie says
When I restart the chapter I lose progress I’ve made on my sling/equipment
FranciRoosters says
Yes, you do.
Stomozy says
The sling upgrade trophy is literally impossible, every time i chapter select it undoes every single one of my upgrades from future chapters and deletes all my materials. Losing my mind here, tweeted the devs but in my experience devs don’t care so we’ll find out.
FranciRoosters says
Concentrate all of your materials on either the Sling or Equipment first. When you’re done powering up either (which should happen 3/4 of the story in), move to the other. Then, replay some endgame levels to finish it. This way all the materials you had used on what you fully upgraded first can go to what’s left to max out. Doing so will guarantee you the trophy. Ignore Alchemy.
Jet says
I also don´t understand now how exactly it should work with getting the crafting materials by means of playing back to back the chapters, if it´s not saving your upgrade progress at all?, or do you have to basically play the entire game again and then try to upgrade everything?
Francesco says
Ideally you want to try and upgrade both in one single playthrough. This, however, requires you to be on the lookout for crafting materials at all time. You really need to scour every nook and cranny of each chapter. If that’s not the case, play through the end but focus your crafting materials only on either the Sling or Equipment and ignore Alchemy altogether.
Billy Reavy says
I started to replay earlier chapters and all my upgrade progress was wiped, but not my collectibles. How do I make sure this doesn’t happen again?
FranciRoosters says
You don’t. Upgrades revert back to the way they were originally during your main playthrough.
Tin Nguyen says
When you chapter-select to clean up collectables, do you need to complete said chapter or just back out when colectables obtained?
Francesco says
You can back out.
Jet says
There has been it seems now an update out for the game, but don’t know if it fixed now the upgrade bug?
Redd says
Unless I’m missing something about the crafting system, it really should be noted that, you’ll need to upgrade your pockets to a minimum of level 2 in order to even be able to hold enough crafting materials to upgrade the sling. Plus, you’ll be missing out on early game materials because you’ll run out space to hold them.
FranciRoosters says
Thank you. I will add this to the guide.
Dominik says
Im also confused.
I only have to make equipment, not the weapon for trophy.
But i dont remember if i took my crafting UNTIL chapter 9 for only the weapon. So is that sure – NO MATTER WHAT I DID ´BEFORE CHAPTER 9 – that i can craft equip complete or is better an new restart????
FranciRoosters says
It really depends how meticulous in your search you’ve been. If you haven’t, you may have to replay more chapters back to back or, yes, start a new game altogether.
oracle says
I should never beat a game again without reading everything about it online first. Didn’t know the upgrades reset after using chapter select so now I have to pretty much beat the whole fucking game again just to get the damn sling fully upgraded. Fuck this game, can’t stand shit like this
maze says
you have to play games for enjoy to gameplay and stories not for trophies…
PhantomFear94 says
A bit late to the party, but could do with some advise.
I feel I have searched quite a lot, but at the very start of Chapter 14 – Blood Ties it would appear that I only have 2 proper chapters left to find any materials (Ch. 14 you play as Hugo, Ch. 17 is an Epilogue)
I have already conceded that I will have to replay from Chapter 9 to focus on the sling achievement (barely upgraded at all) but really want to get the equipment achievement before the end of my first play-through if possible.
I’ve focused on equipment, and have done 7/9 upgrades (3/3 Pocket, 2/3 Ammo Bag, 2/3 Attarail). For the last 2 upgrades, I need roughly 8 leather and 10 fabric. Is this realistic to achieve in Ch. 15-16 alone? Thanks.
FranciRoosters says
Probably, yes.
PhantomFear94 says
Thanks. Your walkthrough is superb, btw, but you might want to add in the Ch. 15 walkthrough that it’s absolutely worthwhile searching the castle and ramparts (its an enemy free level so far) for materials, I found almost all the leather and fabric I need (two rarest materials), and as I said I needed 10 (need 1 more leather and 3 more fabric). Not as many materials as 9 – 12, but a lot of leather, cord, fabric etc.
FranciRoosters says
Thanks, I will make that change!
wzh says
After u replay ch9 to ch12, u’d better replay ch13 and ch15 afterwards, but u don’t really need to start missions in ch15 just search whole area and houses for tools and materials , there r a lot of them.
wzh says
……u’d better replay ch13 to ch15 afterwards,……
KomodoDragon says
Hi guys, firstable I apologize if my english is misspellings, I read here and other websites problems to obtain in one run both trophies: “Not a toy anymore” and “Handfull of pockets”. I played and finished this great game, unlocked both trophies and I completed upgrading Alchemist too; It is not hard at all or maybe the last patch (I finished the game in patch 1.04) increase the number of materials, whatever, I upload a video with some tips to make posible what I said:
1) Upgrade first your bag before sling (same tip as powerpyx said)
2) Explore and thoroughly review each scenario
3) If at one point you can´t take more resources, create ammunition that requires that type of resource, the objetive is not to leave resources unused.
4) In all your way only create 1 Somnum (tutorial) and 3 Luminosa (tutorial and 2 more) this is enough to enter in 5 alchemist carts
5) Recipient for Alchemist is the last thing you need to upgrade NO BEFORE slinger or Equipment, and this is only posible in the last chapter.
If you want to check what I said this is the link youtu.be/h3KwG-7K9DA for the video, just consider that the video is in spanish :P
BodyChipper says
I’m not sure that finishing the game once you complete either the sling or equipment is the fastest strategy. I was able to max the sling by the end of chapter 10 when I reached the area with the alchemist cart. Instead of playing the rest of the game and THEN going back to replay chapters 9 onward or whatever, I just replayed chapter 10 and went on from there. That way I only had to reply 1 chapter twice and then finished the story while focussing on the other item, rather than having to replay multiple chapters. I was able to upgrade the last equipment item in chapter 16. Leather will be the thing that will make or break you.
Also, it is entirely possible, if you are diligent at searching for items, to upgrade both with one playthrough. Just don’t upgrade alchemy at all. In my example above, I had enough leftover items to then upgrade my sling immediately afterwards.
Cockneycol says
I’ve completed The blacksmith trophy but it’s not showing up? Any ideas
Jeffrey John says
For the trophy handfull of pocket and not a toy anymore, is it possible to upgrade sling and equipment one at a time when playing chapter 9 to 12 until it pop out the trophy neither one of them and then repeat chapter 9 to 12 for the other trophy?
BridgeToClarity says
This is a joke game for trophies. I miss a collectible and don’t want to do it later. I have to start all over again from the chapter and can’t get back to where I was. I have to replay everything. Have to watch most dialogue and do all the BS again. Can’t see where to go for collectibles without watching video.
Story seems cool so far.
Nooki says
I was able to fully upgrade both the sling and equipment by the end of chapter 12 no problem. I focused on upgrading equipment first – especially pocket, which let’s you hold more materials.
So I highly recommend fully upgrading equipment first and sling second..that way you should be able to avoid replaying chapters for materials.
JGadz says
First this goes without saying, great work on the guide again PowerPyx. You are the best!
Second, damn this game was such an unexpected action adventure thriller with an excellent story and awesome gameplay. I truly cannot express how much this game surprised me. What a game to enjoy and play while really taking in the story. (Very dark and gruesome)
Lastly the reason why I am commenting, to all the weary hearts out there worrying about the 2 trophies involving maxing out your slingshot (not a toy anymore) and equipment (Handful of pockets), I was able to max out everything including my alchemy kit as well. With max ammo for each type and plenty of materials left over by the end. Was able to make the item for the research sharing trophy too with ease. All in one playthrough (Plat)! My advise…..upgrade your pockets to hold max items asap and scour every little nook and cranny of this game. There is more than meets the eye in each area. I even would take both paths of a single area to clean up all materials instead of just reaching the destination and leaving. Just make sure to do it in all one run so it saves! Be smart when crafting ammo and never leave any material if you can craft ammo to pick it up. You seriously will have no problem getting every trophy in one playthrough.
Stay safe everyone and enjoy!
JGadz
Jester Roll says
Chapter 10 at the very end, the moron with you gets stuck in the water. Anyone else have this happen and know a way to get this jackass out? Or am I stuck redoing the chapter?
Jester Roll says
In chapter 10 at the end. Be careful not to die in the last room, or restart checkpoint. This loaded the dude in the water and glitches the game. You do need to redo the entire chapter.
Marc says
Great guide for a great game! Amazing job, kudos to you Sir. I can also confirm it is possible to max out your sling and equipment in one playthrough. Chapter 12 in my case just before entering Amicia’s house. It does require one to scour the levels for mats but you’ll end up having more than enough. Even started upgrading Alchemy and couldn’t store any more ammo – maxed out all types.
A lot of fun wrapped up in a good story. This guide makes it a breeze.
biorogue says
Great guide, it’s helping immensely. Just a note. There is a materials glitch that still works, I just used it right now. You can fully upgrade everything at the beginning of Chapter 10 using this glitch. bit.ly/35QZjFq
CutoverMe says
Great guide, wanted to tell you another way of doing the trophy/achievement “The Hard Way” in Chapter nine. Insted of luring them back to the rat area, or using Devorantis and rocks. This is how i did it thanks to a YT vid.
Make sure you have one Somnum, and go to the right side of the two guards where there is some cover and a pot. If you need one take it and throw the pot a good distance away as one of the guards will leave to check it out and the other will stand still for you to jump over the wooden fence and take him out with Somnum and sneek in through the front door 🙂
JJ says
I’m on chapter 16.
Is there enough Fabric (I need 8) on this chapter? This is for Handfull of pockets trophy.
Infernoman190 says
I’m currently only missing the sling, equipment, Rodrick’s forge and the apple trophy. I want to get the platinum when I beat the game and I understand the how the crafting materials and upgrades reset to what you have when you started a particular chapter. Will selecting chapter 2 affect any of the upgrades and materials I’ve acquired at the start of chapter 16 if I just select chapter 2 and jump straight to 16?
Trophy Lover says
A game like this is usually a 3/10 difficulty. Would you please explain what makes it a 3.5/10 difficulty?
