One of the most important things in Final Fantasy XV is leveling up your characters. This guide shows you the fastest way to level up!
Before we start please be aware you only level up when sleeping at camps or lodgings. While out in the field you earn XP from side quests and killing monsters (and sometimes dialogue choices). The Level-Ups aren’t instant and if you die all XP since the last save game are lost.
Leveling Up with XP Multipliers
The trick to maximizing your XP is sleeping at lodgings instead of camps. This costs Gil (money) but you get considerable XP multipliers. There are lodgings with different prices and XP boosts available (x1,2 XP, x1,5 XP, x2,0XP, x3,0XP). The more expensive a lodging, the higher its XP multiplier will be. Meals can be bought (and cooked) to increase your XP gains even further.
Step 1: Play until your reach story chapter 3. At this point you’ll get access to lots of side quests. Of course the strategies outlined here will still work at a later time. Chapter 3 is just the recommended minimum.
Step 2: Do the side quests from Wiz at Chocobo Post. After the third side quest he will start selling the meal “Fat Chocobo Triple-Decker”. It costs 1,100 Gil and increases your XP gain by 50% for 1 in-game day. See his location in the screenshot below:
Step 3: Now do all the side quests and monster hunts you can find with this food effect active (preferrably side quests). You can buy another meal when the food effects runs out. Dungeons are even better for endgame players.
Step 4: After doing all available side quests go sleep at one of the lodgings. This is really the most important point as lodgings give you double or even triple XP. Below are the best lodgings in the game. Choose which one suits your game progress and available money:
150% XP Multiplier for 300 Gil:
Cheap but very small XP multiplier. A good option if you are short on cash and have less than 10,000XP.
200% XP Multiplier for 10,000 Gil:
This place is available from the beginning of the game. For the price of 10,000 Gil your will receive double XP! If you have 100,000XP you actually get 200,000.
300% XP Multiplier for 30,000 Gil:
This place is found in Altissia after reaching story chapter 9. It triples your XP – so 100,000 become 300,000. Since this is very expensive it’s only recommended for endgame characters and post-story leveling. You can still return after beating the story.
You have to pay the same fee each time. The best way to get quick money is from doing monster hunts or selling items you don’t need (especially valuables that have no other use).
VERY IMPORTANT: Do not finish story chapters while farming XP! Doing so will give you all XP without a multiplier. Avoid story missions and focus on side quests and monster hunts.
