Money Lending and Other Sins is a Story Mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 and consists of several parts. This Walkthrough shows how to complete the fourth part, taking place in Chapter 3.
Quest Giver: Leopold Strauss
Region: Clemens Point Camp
Requirements: having finished The New South
Reward: roughly $ 10
Note: The two debts can also be collected in Chapter 4, but better get it done as early as possible before possibly forgetting about them.
Money Lending and Other Sins IV Starting Location
The Austrian-based Loan-Shark in our gang, Leopold Strauss, wants us to collect a few more overdue debts from two people.
Gwyn Hughes
Our first target is Gwyn Hughes, an apprentice undertaker from Rhodes.
Gwyn is working behind the Undertaker’s house on a coffin. Arthur suggests he should make another one for himself, if he can’t pay.
He says he can pay, but we would have to come to the church with him. He wants to steal the money; in particular a brooch from a recent grave.
Before he can do the dirty thing, Arthur has to clear the churchyard. The couple at the stairs have to be approached in a harsh way, while the lady at the grave will follow Arthurs nicer instructions.
Now, we have to guard the entrance to the churchyard. A lady can be persuaded to come by later, while two fellers only understand one language. Fist in the face.
Once they are down, check up on Gwyn and take the brooch. Better not think about the fact, how we and the gang earn our money.
Winton Holmes
The second target is Winton Holmes, a hunter camping north of Strawberry.
Of course, he is another “I don’t have the money on me, but…”-feller.
He saw a rare white cougar and ensures us that its pelt would be worth more than he owes.
Arthur agrees to go hunt for it together with Holmes.
Mount your horse and follow him until you have to enter a cave. Be sure to equip your lantern, as it is pitch-black in there.
When the way splits, Holmes suggests to split up as well. Shortly after taking the right path, we can hear some trouble on Holmes’ side.
Holmes was killed by the cougar – brilliant. Now we have to take him down on our own.
Because of the very limited light, you should watch your mini-map closely. Once a red dot appears, have your Dead Eye ready and pump a few bullets in it.
Skin the Cougar and head to the Butcher in Strawberry to sell the pelt for money.
Completion
To completely finish the mission, put the debt money/valuables back in the Camps Tithing Box the next time you come around there.
This concludes the “Money Lending and Other Sins IV” Story Missions in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). For all other Story Missions check out the full Red Dead Redemption 2 Missions Walkthrough.

I followed these steps but can’t seem to find it in Progress -> Story.
How do you check if this has registered as complete?
I’d hate to miss this miss-able mission due to a glitch.
Martell says
Same for me. Did the missions as soon as I could in chapter 3 but hasn’t shown up in Progress – Story.
Should it for instance also show up on the Social Club mission overview?
Jimmy Owens says
Its for some reason a side mission, not main
PowerPyx says
It’s something in between. It counts as an “optional honor main mission” for the purpose of the “Lending a Hand” trophy and achievement. But in-game it’s not tracked under main missions, nor does it count as a Stranger Mission.
Since the trophy description classifies it as a main mission, that’s what we filed it under.
Bubu says
Check the ledger for being sure the mission is completed.
Al YourPal says
Story mission icons are yellow and have requirements to meet in order to earn a gold medal. The map icon for this Leopold Strauss mission is white. It has no requirements to meet for a medal, not even a time limit. There’s no reason to repeat it to do better. I assume that’s why it’s not in the story missions list.
Coray says
Correct. Because it is white and not yellow its a non repeatable mission.
