Red Dead Redemption 2 has 4 Treasure Hunts and this guide shows all treasure map locations and solutions where to dig up the treasure. Only 3 treasure hunts are needed for 100% game completion, they count for the Explorer Challenge (and all challenges are required to attain 100%).
None of them are missable. However, one of the treasure hunts called “Les Trésor Des Morts” is only available if you pre-ordered the digital edition or bought the special- or ultimate edition of RDR2. If you don’t have access to it, no worry, the 3 default treasure hunts are all you need to get 100% completion. If you do have this bonus mission then you can skip one of the other treasures.
What’s special is that you always have to follow a series of 3 clues before you get to the actual treasure. One map will lead to the next and the 4th location you visit will have thea actual treasure. Let’s get started.
Treasure Maps Overview:
- Jack Hall Gang Treasure Map = $1000
- Poisonous Trail Treasure Map = $2000
- High Stakes Treasure Map = $1500
- Le Tresor Des Morts Treasure Map = $2500
- Torn (Mended) Treasure Map = 1 Revolver
- Chick’s Treasure Map = $35
- Killer Clue Pieces = Leads to Stranger Mission
Jack Hall Gang Treasure Map
*Video contains spoilers so don’t watch until you’ve beaten the game
Availability: As soon as Chapter 2 starts, this is part of the Stranger Mission “All That Glitters“.
Reward: 2 Gold Bars (can be sold to Fence for $1000).
Starting Map Location: Go to the below location (near Flatneck Station) and talk to the Stranger there. He’s called Maximo and offers to sell you the map. If you decline he lowers the price from $10 to $5 but then you should really buy it. If you kill him or he went away you can still buy the map from any fence.
Jack Hall Gang Map 1: This is found on the side of the mountain “Caliban’s Seat”. First go up the mountain and find a path leading down the right side. Then you must jump from one ledge to the next and find the treasure in a crevice of the rock wall.
Jack Hall Gang Map 2: Found at Cotorra Springs. There are some stone piles placed out in a rectangle shape. The middle pile has the treasure under it. Near to some geysers.
Jack Hall Gang Map 3: On a small island in the middle of the lake O’Creagh’s Run, under a small rock. This is the final treasure and contains 2 Gold Bars worth $500 a piece. This finishes the Jack Hall Gang Treasure Hunt. You can sell the gold bars for $1000 at any fence or donate them to your camp.
Poisonous Trail Treasure Map
*Video contains spoilers so don’t watch until you’ve beaten the game
Availability: As soon as Chapter 2 starts, you must pick up the starting map to get the first clue.
Reward: 4 Gold Bars (can be sold to Fence for $2000).
Starting Map Location: In the Cairn Lodge at “Cairn Lage” in the snowy region north-western part of map. In a lockbox under a bed next to the door.
The Poisonous Trail Map 1: Halfway up a hill, there’s a broken tree on the ground and another dead tree still standing. In the dead tree is the treasure map.
The Poisonous Trail Map 2: On top of a hill there is a stone formation. In the very middle of it is a hole where the treasure map is placed in.
The Poisonous Trail Map 3: This is in the cave behind the waterfall at Elysian Pool. After going through the waterfall be sure to select your lantern from the weapon wheel (bottom right where the knife is you can switch to lantern). Otherwise it’s pitch-black in there. After you enter, drop down on the right side the first chance you get. So always stick to the right, just run down the ledge. There’s a little tunnel at the bottom on the right. Go through it and you’ll find a series of hidden tunnels, at the very end of one of them is the treasure. Refer to the video guide at 1:51 for the path as the tunnels can be very disorienting.
This finishes the Poisonous Trail Treasure Hunt. You get 4 gold bars from this treasure. Sell them at a fence for $2000 or donate them to your camp.
High Stakes Treasure Map
Availability: Chapter 3, after finishing story mission “The New South”.
Reward: 3 Gold Bars (can be sold to Fence for $1500).
Starting Map Location: A random treasure hunter has it, who gets marked as a Chance Encounter when you get nearby. He can spawn in different predefined areas but it’s random in which of the areas he shows up – so you’ll just have to check all of them. See the possible spawn zones below (I found him at day):
You’ve got to lasso him and tie him up. Then he drops his map and you can pick it up. If after 3 encounters you haven’t got the map it can be bought from fences.
High Stakes Treasure Map 1: Behind the Waterfall at Cumberland Falls. You can walk up a wooden log on the right side of the waterfall.
High Stakes Treasure Map 2: At Barrow Lagoon, walk up the little hill and you’ll see a broken tree stump that’s stuck between two rocks. You can find the treasure on the broken tree.
High Stakes Treasure Map 3: At Bacchus Station, you need to drop down the side of a mountain to the lower cliffs, above the river (so go to top of mountain facing the river and drop down from platform to platform). After a few drops you can find this treasure edged into a crevice.
This finishes the High Stakes treasure hunt and you get 3 Gold Bars for it, worth $1500.
Le Tresor Des Morts Treasure Map
Availability: Exclusive pre-order bonus for digital edition or if you own the special edition / deluxe edition of Red Dead Redemption 2. This is an exclusive bonus mission not available in the standard edition!
Reward: 5 Gold Bars (can be sold to Fence for $2500).
Les Tresor Des Morts Map 1: There are a bunch of burned-down houses and only one is left standing (a prison cell). Go inside the one building that’s not burned and to find the map next to a dead body.
Les Tresor Des Morts Map 2: In the Saint Denis trainyard, there’s an underground passage under one of the buildings (third screenshot shows the entrance). In the underground passage the treasure map is in a wall next to a wooden crate.
Les Tresor Des Morts Map 3: Inside the little building on the Saint Denis graveyard.
Here you find 5 Gold Bars worth $2500 when sold to a fence. That concludes the Les Tresor Des Morts Treasure Hunt.
Torn Treasure Map (Mended Treasure Map)
Availability: The first two map parts are available from chapter 2 onward. However, the treasure can only be reached after you get to the Epilogue in the story. So basically, you’ll want to beat the game first for this one.
Reward: Otis Miller’s Revolver & 5 x Erotic Photograph
Torn Treasure Map 1: On the far left side of the map, at the start of the Little Creek River, inside a drawer of a wooden hut.
Torn Treasure Map 2: Top right side of the map, inside a drawer of the house called “Manito Glade”. After you collect the 2nd map part it turns into the Mended Map which is both pieces put together.
Mended Map: This is in the New Austin area, the southern half of the map. You can only go here after having reached the Epilogue of the Story. It’s west of Twin Rocks, inside a tiny cave. There’s no money to be earned here but it gives you some erotic photographs and a revolver that counts for 100% completion.
Chick’s Treasure Map
During the Chapter 2 Main Mission “Money Lending and other Sins” you can track down a debtor called Chick Matthews. He gives you a treasure map. You can retrieve it to get $35 for your camp’s tithing box and to finish this optional story mission.
Killer Clues Map
Availability: Available from the start of Chapter 2.
Reward: American Dreams Stranger Mission & $20.
The Killer Clues puzzle is not technically a treasure hunt, but it does lead to a secret Stranger for the hidden mission American Dreams.

Killer Clue Solution: After finding all murder sites you can proceed to the murderer’s location, which is a requirement for the American Dreams Stranger Mission.
Those were all the Red Dead Redemption 2 Treasure Maps and their solutions. In total you can get 14 Gold Bars ($7000) from this. One of the fastest ways to make money in RDR2.

I’m stuck into a pretty annoying bug for the Jack Hall Gang Treasure Hunt.
I’ve got the second map in Caliban’s Seat (I opened and everything) but it doesn’t appear in my bag anymore. Also, It doesn’t appear in the Caliban’s Seat either.
I tried to jump to the 3rd location, but I can’t search for the next tip – I assume because I don’t get the previous map.
There is any way that I can recover those maps?

The “Sketched Treasure Map” is located north of Annesburg inside a small cottage called “Reed Cottage”.

On the top of the cliff to the left of the waterfall is a tree with an x marked on it. Count the steps from there or you can check the rocks near the camp.

I do not remember the exact location i got the sketched map from, it was in a shack in the fireplace. From what i remember somewhere around annesburg. imgur.com/a/9SymQbp The map also sits in the map section in the bag not the treasure map section. i assume because its pretty much telling you the exact location of it. but its a gold ingot worth $300

Ok, I must be missing something. I found the tree at the top of the cliff with the big X. Counted out the steps, searched the rock… nothing. The map shows 2 trees with Xs under them, am I missing a 2nd tree somewhere?? I don’t know why this one is giving me so much trouble.

Or maybe I didnt find it. Saw a few reddit posts on people that had the same issue as me. They went looking for it & couldn’t find it, but there was an empty hole already. One person loaded a hard save from earlier & was able to recover the treasure. Others haven’t. Hopefully it gets fixed.

The map is found by talking to a guy camping up east of the map label Donner Creek (i think). It is south of the big letter I near Grizzlies East.

I believe Chick’s is missable. If you don’t read the map right after getting it off him, he will beat you to the tree and take the treasure.

The shack where the first Poisonous Trail Map is also where you find one of the gunfighters for the Stranger mission in Valentine (its in the saloon the first time you go to Valentine). If you haven’ gotten that quest yet it’s a long trip to have to make twice. And he has a few men outside as well.

Guys i finished the whole Treasurse hunt challanges 1 , 2 , 3 maps of each gang and required hide out i found on YouTube and following the same exact steps of PowerPyx but yet the challange on the challenge screen stuck on level 8 !! Even a lot of other side missions are unfinished but i played it and finshed them all !! WTF guys

Can someone please help me? Done the high stakes maps 1,2 and 3, found the gold and now I’m working on the explorer challenges, at explorer 8 but I’ve already done what is required so all 3 maps are not in there locations, the gold is not there either. Also tried making the guy you get the first map from spawn again but no such luck. Any idea anyone? Need it for 100% completion.

To find your lantern, get on the horse, look for it in items (where the knife is), select it and get off horse.

I found a gold bar in the burned out town, close to “Horseshoe Overlook”, near the first camp. The trail west of camp Horseshoe goes next to the town. Follow the trail south, it’s on the left side of the trail. I believe I found it in the tavern looking building, search carefully because it’s an easy $500 to get started with.

GOLD BAR that I’ve yet to see someone show online and it will not let me pick it up but when I click both sticks in it flashes like I’m supposed to grab it… it is near the A in AUSTIN on the map at a place called ridgewood farm, when you pull up your map it is the smallest building of the 3 and its behind it in a lock box… if you can find out a way to pick it up please let me know!!

I have a problem with high stakes one.I found the man who carried the starting map and i killed him but a witness appeared and i chased him to stop him from alerting law . Then I returned to retrieve the map from treasure hunter corpse but his corpse just vanished . I searched all spawn zones over and over but I found nothing. Does this mean that I lost whole treasure hunt mission? How can I make him respawn ? I already tested sleeping some in game days or kill arthur to make chance encounters restart but nothing happened . I also searched fence inventory or other parts of this treasure map(the one behind watterfall) but there was nothing too. What should I do? Sorry for poor english.

You are missing one very important treasure in your list worth 3 Gold Bars or $1500… the Strange Statues treasure. There is no map to it but there is a picture about the statues drawn into a rock face nearby where the statues can be found inside of a cave. I’ll let you Google for more details about this treasure on the Web.

I’m nearly 5 years late, but I just wanted to say that I encountered the beholder of the High Stakes Treasure Map 1 before Chapter 3’s intro mission, “The New South”. This was right before “The Sheep and the Goats” which is the final mission for Chapter 2.
His location? Directly south from Wallace station, overlooking the terrain from the hill in front of the arch of the road which runs along the Little Creek river (on the north side of the river).
So I guess this somehow confirms that the prerequisite for unlocking the High Stakes Treasure chain is having completed Chapter 1.
