Meet Shotei
You can track this quest from the Objectives Board. Scroll to the Shikinubuku group and select the quest underneath Akechi Kagemitsu.
Find Sakamoto Tower on a hill to the northwest of Sakamoto. Speak to Shotei when you get there.
Shotei presents you with a dialogue choice to continue the quest:
- [I am ready.]
- [Not yet.]
You must choose “I am ready” to continue the quest.
Kill Gamo Yoshimitsu
Regardless of who you were playing before this, you automatically regain control as Yasuke in front of the Sakamoto Castle.
No one is immediately hostile to you here, so head in and make your way south.
When you reach this spot, enemies become hostile.
You can try to sneak in, but you will end up in a fight no matter what you do. So, you might as well take out the enemies as you come across them. That way, they don’t build up large numbers against you at any one time.
You find Gamo Yoshimitsu in the southernmost house on the Yoshimitsu Estate.
Gamo Yoshimitsu fights with a poisonous weapon. If he hits you too many times, then you take passive damage from poison.
While he uses light attacks, he tends to chain heavy attacks, generally in sets of three. He does have one combo where he attacks four times.
It’s also good to know that when you dodge his last attack with the right timing, he gets staggered for a bit. You know you triggered this effect when he glows yellow. That’s a good time to get some hits in.
After this fight, you switch over to Naoe. The first thing you deal with is a dialogue choice:
- [A teppo requires no talent.]
- [You make me nervous.]
- [I like your teppo.]
These options do not affect the story, but you can show romantic interest to Katsuhime by selecting “I like your teppo.”
Destroy the explosives
Climb the scaffolding in front of you.
The first two explosives are visible to you when you reach the top of the wall.
Explosive 1: go after the explosive on your left. There’s no real way to do this sneakily. So, when they get in view, throw a kunai at them. Blowing them up doesn’t draw that much attention, strangely enough.
Explosive 2: Now, go south along the wall a bit until you can aim at the second explosive. Hit it with a kunai.
Explosive 3: Continue following the outside wall south, taking out any enemies in your path.
The third one isn’t as easy to hit, since it has a roof blocking your vantage point.
Go down the stairs and get to the tall bush just north of the explosive. That’s the perfect spot.
Regroup with Kitshuhime
Climb back up to the outside wall and make your way north around the outside of the armory.
You eventually meet Kitshuhime at the northeast corner of the Armory, at the top of the tower there.
Meet Shotei
From the top of the tower, look easterly to see Shotei standing on a small dock on the northeast corner of the castle.
Dive into the lake from the northeast corner of the tower and then swim to him. You can also use one of the boats below if you wish.
During this cutscene, you get the choice to play as either Yasuke or Naoe. You can use whomever you wish, but Naoe offers the easiest way through this quest.
Assassinate Akechi Kagemitsu
If you have the fast travel point unlocked here already, just use that to get to the top of the tower where Akechi Kagemitsu hides.
If you don’t, then turn around and climb up the outside wall. Stay on the outside of the roof to stay out of sight as much as you can.
You might get spotted by a random civilian, but keep going.
The way the wall is positioned, you end up using your grappling hook to climb up to the highest roof. They can’t chase you that far anyway.
If you don’t have it already, climb to the very top of this tower and activate the fast travel point.
Now, climb down the west side of the tower until you sit above two guards.
Find the tall bush nearby and drop down into it. Whistle for the guards to come to you one by one and take them out easily.
Then make your way inside the tower. To avoid confrontation, go around the corner to the south and find another doorway.
Go in, take out the enemy to the right, and then climb up the stairs to the left. Be mindful of a patrol on your left before you reach the ladder stairs.
At the top of the ladder stairs, you might get seen by a stray enemy. Take him out quickly. Thankfully, he doesn’t call for help, and the noise doesn’t draw any extra attention.
Be careful here. If you go the obvious route, then the floor makes a ton of extra noise when you move quickly. You can see the culprits when you use Eagle Vision.
The easiest strategy is quite cool. Go inside the room in front of you, and then take the food away from the dog.
The dog starts barking, naturally drawing attention. Hide in the box right next to the dog.
This dog must belong to Akeshi Kagemitsu himself, because he comes down to check on the dog. When get gets close, assassinate him.
This finishes Showdown in Sakamoto in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
