Grand Escunite is an endemic lifeform in Monster Hunter Wilds, required for the Razzle Dazzle side mission. After accepting the Razzle Dazzle side mission you must catch a Grand Escunite using the Capture Net, then return to the quest giver.
Razzle Dazzle Side Mission Start:
Razzle Dazzle side quest starts by talking to Kanya in Scarlet Forest Base Camp. This is her fifth quest after “The Catch of a Lifetime!“. This is the final quest in Kanya’s fishing questline.
Grand Escunite Location:
Grand Escunite is a large squid – found in Scarlet Forest – Area 17 in the large lake – during Downpour/Inclemency weather. Check the deep side of the lake where you can’t walk, across from where the waterfall drops down. There you often find large sea creatures swimming around. The Grand Escunite is a large squid recognized by its shell. Not to be confused with regular “Escunite” which is a smaller version, and “Giant Squid” which triggers the reeling minigame. Grand Escunite is the “medium size” squid. Rest at the BBQ grill or in your tent to change the condition to Inclemency/Morning, then it will start raining. Make a popup camp at Area 17: Great Lake Shore (on the tree overlooking the lake), then fast travel to another map to respawn all fish, travel to Camp 17, check if you see any squids, rinse and repeat until it spawns.
Alternatively, Grand Escunite can also spawn in Scarlet Forest Area 8, swim through the cave to the second fishing spot (during Downpour/Inclemency). You can make a camp in the water cave called Area 8: Underground Lake. Then can check Area 8 and Area 17, if it doesn’t spawn travel to other map and check again.
Remember that endemics/fishes don’t have a 100% guaranteed spawn rate. They have fixed places where they can spawn but won’t be there every single time. If the endemic isn’t there for you, fast travel to another map and come back, this will respawn all endemics. Repeat this until you find the endemic in the suggested location. You can also rest at the portable BBQ Grill or in your tent to skip to a different daytime and weather effect, this also respawns everything but costs 300 guild points.
