Dragon’s Dogma 2 contains 6 Grimoires. They are special quest-related books, needed to complete the 2 side quests “Spellbound” and “The Sorcerer’s Appraisal“. Each of these quest givers asks you to find the same books, without telling you the exact locations where to find them.
MISSABLE WARNING: Each of the two side quests unlocks Maister’s Teachings. In order to finish both of them in the same playthrough you are only allowed to give 3 books to each person! So keep 3 books for Spellbound quest and 3 for Sorcerer’s Appraisal quest. Otherwise you’d miss out on the Maister’s Teachings and would need to do it in New Game+.
In what order you pick up the grimoires doesn’t matter. There are two copies of “Nation’s Death Knell”, you can give one copy to each quest giver. For Trysha in Spellbound you must provide the real books (not forgeries). For Myrddin in “The Sorcerer’s Appraisal” you can get away with making forgeries at Ibrahim’s Scrap Store in Checkpoint Rest Town for 6000 Gold per book. He will accept the forgeries as if they were the real ones.
Video Guide
Grimoire 1: Let There Be Light
Found in Checkpoint Rest Town > Myrddin’s Home, upstairs. It’s the same place where you start side quest The Sorcerer’s Appraisal. To enter this place you must wear the Courtly Tunic & Courtly Breeches, which can be found for free in Vernworth > Comptroller’s Home (there are more copies of this in the houses of the Noble Quarter in Vernworth). If you wear another outfit, Myrddin won’t let you inside his house.
Grimoire 2: Fulminous Shield
Bought from merchant in Melve, in the ruined part of town. Costs 5000 Gold.
Grimoire 3 & 4: Howling Blizzard & Nation’s Death Knell
Both of these books are found in the same chest, in Waterfall Cave. There are two entrances to the cave, to the north and east of Borderwatch Outpost. Going there from the entrance to the east is easier as there are fewer enemies on the way to the chest. From where you enter the cave head to the eastern-most point on 1F, then climb up to 2F and follow the path to a large open room. There you find a red chest, opening it gives 2 books. It will spawn a boss when opening the chest but you can run away without fighting it.
Grimoire 5: Towering Earth
Given by Waldhar in the ruins below Vernworth Slums. Must have done Main Quest: The Caged Magistrate. Then you will find him there and he gives the book.
Grimoire 6: Nation’s Death Knell (2nd Copy)
A second copy of Nation’s Death Knell is found in Ancient Battleground, north-east of Checkpoint Rest Town. Enter the castle-looking building, turn left to go up the ladder, after reaching the top of the ladder go straight out of the tower until you find a cave entrance where you can climb down. Follow that path to find the book in a side room. Having this second copy gets you 6 books total, you can give one copy of this to each quest giver.
After getting all books, it’s recommended to make an Inn Rest Save (sleep at inn), just in case something goes wrong. Remember to only give 3 books to each quest giver. I gave Let There Be Light + Fulminous Shield + Nation’s Death Knell to Trysha for Spellbound and Howling Blizzard + Towering Earth + Nation’s Death Knell to Myrddin for The Sorcerer’s Appraisal. They will complain if that’s all the books you found (because they initially ask for 5 books each) but you can tell them yes that you are done searching and they will accept it. Giving 3 is enough to finish the quests and to get their Maister Teachings as a reward. This way you can do both in the same playthrough. If you already sold a book by accident, you can make forgeries at Ibrahim’s Scrap Store before handing them to Trysha. Because Myrdinn will accept forgeries you can still do it that way.
For all other Quests refer to Dragon’s Dogma 2 Walkthrough.
