Battle Flag 1
From Battle Flag 1 at the start of the level, continue down the path and you’ll be presented with the Wizardry Spell tutorial, which explains how each element is a counter to its opposite twin. Wood overcomes Earth, Earth overcomes Water, Water overcomes Fire, Fire overcomes Metal, Metal overcomes Wood.
Depending on what kind of spell an enemy casts, you will have to choose and use its countering element. This is a good moment to start slotting at least a spell from each element, so you’ll find what works for you over time. Dispose of the enemies and when you see the crows, drop down to the right to find a red chest by the cliffside. Just watch out for the guard on your left.
Once you’ve opened up the chest, return to where the crows were and this time head straight ahead (left from before) to find a single enemy. Here you’ll be introduced to the Encourage tutorial to fire up your ally. This will push them to perform certain actions and be more decisive in combat. Each ally will use actions belonging to the Element they belong to. If you have two allies by your side, you can use or to select which ally to galvanize.
Continue down this path and you’ll eventually reach Battle Flag 2 and Zhu Xia the Blacksmith next to it.
Battle Flag 2
Activate the Battle Flag, but don’t cross the bridge just yet. Return to where you first saw the crows and this time head straight ahead into the ford.
Defeat the guards here and further on and to the left you’ll find a Warlock enemy casting crystallized projectiles at you that can be returned to sender with a well-timed deflection. Behind him is Marking Flag 1.
Now return to Battle Flag 2 and cross the bridge. At the end of the bridge, head right and continue along the cliffside to then drop down into an area with a corrupted Battle Flag.
Here, defeat all enemies, including and especially the Warlock next to the Battle Flag to dispel the corruption and interact with it.
Battle Flag 3
From Battle Flag 3, continue under the bridge, past the dog and the soldier, and along the only available path, then up the cliff to eventually reach a second bridge.
Once at the bridge, jump over the broken bit and then cross the next bridge.
You should now be in an area guarded by Changgui enemy which is corrupting the Battle Flag. Dispose of it and don’t forget about encouraging your allies for an extra damage boost. It’s three against one, so it shouldn’t be too much trouble eliminating it.
Then, interact with the Battle Flag.
Battle Flag 4
Facing the Battle Flag, climb up to the right to reach a small area with a Fanatic, a guard and a chest.
Then, drop back and facing the Battle Flag, continue up the hill behind it.
Continue along the cliffside and climb up the ledges to reach the location with the Warlock, then cross the bridge.
Cross the second bridge with the hole in the middle and you’ll reach Marking Flag 2.
As you return to the main path, you can drop down the hole in the bridge to access a Golden Cicada Shell.
Go back to the main path and through the corrupted area. When you reach a white-painted ledge, climb it up and a new wyvern-like enemy called Suanyu will spawn. To kill it, you can encourage one of your allies, but most importantly keep your distance when he summons lightning bolts from the sky.
Then, activate the Battle Flag under the broken temple.
Battle Flag 5
From the Battle Flag’s location, go back to the arena where you fought the Suanyu and make it for the bridge.
Continue along the only path and eliminate the Demonized Officer and Warlock in your path. Behind the Demonized Officer is Marking Flag 3.
Now proceed downhill past where the Warlock was to reach a small area with a chest.
Continue along the only path, defeating Fanatics, then climb up the ladder at the end.
As soon as you’re at the top, watch out for a guard trying to ambush you from the left alcove. Defeat it, then grab the chest.
Now cross the bridge, but watch out for the collapsible bit. On the other side of the bridge is Battle Flag 6.
Battle Flag 6
From the Battle Flag, continue downhill until you get to a split. First, head left for the item on the ground, then retrace your steps and you’ll find a Shitieshou, a small panda-looking creature on your right. This is an innocuous demon whose sole interest is consuming various metals. It will reward any who offers it items to consume with small trinkets. Remember to give it your spare items whenever you can. To give it any item, select any item you don’t need and drop it to have the Shitieshou eat it. There’s a trophy How Cute! for feeding your first Shitieshou and another one How Precious! for feeding all of the Shitieshou in the game. From now on, this walkthrough will also include their locations.
After feeding the Shitieshou, continue past it and you’ll immediately find another split. Head down the corrupted path to get to another area guarded by a Warlock.
Then, continue up the ledges behind him and you’ll eventually reach another area with three more Warlocks, all bundled together on a rock.
Right of their location is the Marking Flag 4.
Return to the split that was immediately past the Shitieshou, but this time go the other direction to find two Changgui. If possible, try to battle one at a time by luring either closer to the Shitieshou or perform a Fatal Attack. After defeating both, grab the Dragon Vein Essence that is in plain view.
After grabbing it, continue on two find a new enemy type called Shuigui, a mermaid-snake-looking enemy.
It’s best to encourage your allies to take them down if you’re low on health, otherwise get in on the fight, but watch out for their Critical Blow rushing attacks. Continue past the waterfall and into the cave and at the entrance split, head left.
Defeat the Demonized Officer and the Warlock on the cliff, then open the gate shortcut leading back to Battle Flag 5.
Replenish your Dragon Pots if needed, then return to the cave and continue on to find the final Warlock for this level. If you’ve been following this walkthrough and the locations it leads to, you should have killed all Warlocks and unlocked Staunching Heresy.
Past the Warlock you can find Battle Flag 7, the final one for the level. Defeat the enemies in the area to dispel the corruption and access it.
Battle Flag 7
Facing the Battle Flag, rotate your camera to the right and you’ll find two ledges you can climb up on.
These will lead you to a small side area with a Changgui and Marking Flag 5, the final one for the level.
Now continue past the Battle Flag to reach the boss fight.
Zhang Bao, General of Earth
Zhang Bao, General of Earth is a Warlock wielding fire spells and has one phase. This fight can be ridiculously easy as long as you use this strategy: first, each fire spell Zhang Bao casts can be deflected, so use this to your advantage. You can even cast a water spell to counter his element. Then, for the rest of the fight, simply + or to encourage your allies (costs two Spirit bars). If you run out of Spirit bars, simply focus on deflecting the fire spells while your allies take care of the boss to recharge it. For some extra damage, you can even summon your Divine Beast if the gauge is full. Overall, a quick and easy fight, which shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge at this stage.
This finishes The Valley of Crying Wraiths main mission in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
