Hogwarts Legacy has 95 Merlin Trial Locations. Finding and completing all Trials of Merlin unlocks the Merlin’s Beard! trophy & achievement. They reward you with increased inventory size which can be claimed from the Challenges Menu. Under Exploration Challenges click on the completed tiers of Merlin Trials to receive the inventory size increase.
Merlin Trials first become available after Main Quest #15: Trials of Merlin. After this they all spawn in the open world. None of them are in Hogwarts Castle, they are all outside. Each trial requires Mallowsweet Leaves to be started. Mallowsweet Leaves can be grown at potting tables in the Room of Requirement or the Greenhouse in Hogwarts. The Mallowsweet Seed Recipe is bought from The Magic Neep shop in Hogsmeade, then you can grow it infinitely for free. The fastest way is to first finish Main Quest #21: The Room of Requirement, then you can place 7 Potting Tables, each will yield 5 Mallowsweet per 10 minutes (x7 tables = 35 mallowsweet every 10 minutes).
None of the Merlin Trials are missable. You can still do all of them after the story in free-roam. To keep track of how many you found, fully zoom out on the map and check the region-counter in the top right corner. It shows how many Merlin Trials there are per region and how many you completed. They all get marked on the map when you go near them. On PS5 you can also track your total progress via the trophy tracker. This guide starts in South Hogwarts Region where the first story-related trial takes place, then we’ll go through all other regions from north to south.
Merlin Trials Solutions
There are just a few types of Merlin Trials that are repeated over and over again through the 95 trials. The principle will always be the same depending on the trial type. Read the solutions first, then you will know how to solve each trial:
- Pyre Puzzles – Cast Confringo at the pyres around the area. Can be highlighted with Revelio.
- Boulder Puzzles – Cast Wingardium Leviosa at the boulder near the Merlin Trial platform and drag it inside the hole that’s nearby. Can be highlighted with Revelio.
- Block Flipping Puzzles – Cast Flipendo at the blocks standing on the pillars, so that the drawings match. Can be highlighted with Revelio.
- Stones Puzzles – Cast Basic Cast at the standing spherical stones found around the area. They’re always together in a set of three. Can be highlighted with Revelio.
- Confringo Puzzles – Cast Confringo to destroy the pillars around the area. Can be highlighted with Revelio.
- Firefly Puzzles – Use your broom to scan the area for swarms of fireflies. Cast Lucio and get near them to attract them and bring them to the pillars. Can be highlighted with Revelio.
- Reparo Puzzles – Use Reparo to repair the pillars. This is the opposite of Confringo Puzzles.
- Standing Stones Platforming – Climb the first stone and jump over all stones quickly without falling down, if you are fast enough it finishes the trial

There is at least one more type of trial that i like to call “The Standing Stones Puzzle”
The are about 5 stones (some are just pillars and others archways) where you need to climb into the first and then jump on top of the next one without touching the ground.
At least 4 of these trials exist.

South Hogwarts region, Merlin trial number 9 I believe. Do you know where the starting point is. I found the other two in the area but can’t find that one. Any help would be appreciated!
I have completed all 5 of merlin trials in manor cape region yet it is only recording 4 of 5. I have flown to all 5 and they are complete. Not sure how to remedy the situation.

“Lucio” should be replaced with Lumos.
