Defeating Elizabeth or Theodore in Persona 3 Portable unlocks A Cut Above trophy / achievement. This guide shows how to unlock their boss fights and the best strategies to defeat them. You can only fight them in New Game+ and only one of them per playthrough. Also, in order to fight against Elizabeth or Theodore you have to accept Request #55 “Defeat the ultimate opponent” from Elizabeth/Theodore and you need to fight alone against Elizabeth/Theodore. You can’t use your team during the fight.
Very early in the game, on 4/21 Tuesday you will be asked by Igor inside the Velvet Room “Tell me… When you think of this person, what do you see?”, you’ll be given two answers. The answers determine which Assistant Igor gets and which will be the person you fight against.
- “Is it a man?” – This will make Theodore your opponent and Igor’s Assistant
- “I think it’s a woman.” – This will make Elizabeth your opponent and Igor’s Assistant
It does not matter which one you chose, because both will have the same attack pattern. It is highly recommended to be level 99 for this fight because the fight will take a while and you are alone. This fight will need a lot of preparation and there are some rules you need to follow or else Elizabeth/Theodore will instantly kill you. The rules are:
Important:
- Don’t have Omnipotent Orb Equipped (or Elizabeth/Theodore will instantly kill you)
- Do not block an Element Elizabeth/Theodore is about to use or they will instantly kill you.
- Elizabeth/Theodore has 20,000 HP. If you push them under 10,000 HP they will fully heal once.
- If you get their HP under 5,000, they will spam 9,999 Megidolaon every turn, which is why the Armageddon Fusion spell is important for this fight.
- Do not use the Armageddon Fusion Spell at the start or you will get instantly get killed.
Requirements for this fight:
- Orpheus Telos with Thunder Reign, Sharp Student, Mind Charge, Salvation, High Counter, Elec Amp, Elec Boost, and Unshaken Will
- (Optional) A persona with Auto-Maraku, Auto-Mataru & Auto-Masuku
- Recommended Equipment: Lucifer’s Blade (Male Character) or Vel Vel Muruga (Female Character), Armor of Light, Shoes of Light, and Divine Pillar (DP reduces Damage you get by 50%)
- Armageddon Fusion Spell
- 10x Infinity Spells
- A calculator so you can count how much damage you have done to Elizabeth/Theodore (will be explained later)
- IMPORTANT: You should be level 99 which will give you 999 HP and 999 SP. Train your level inside Heaven’s door on floors 1-9. Those fights will get you the highest XP rewards.
How to get Orpheus Telos:
To get him, you first need to max out all S-Links, then go to the Velvet Room and you will get the Colorless Mask. Then you will need to do a Triple Fusion and fuse Nidhogger (Aeon), Odin (Emperor), and Scathach (Priestess).
The key here is to get Thunder Reign from Odin Transferred to Orpheus Telos. After selecting all three Persona you will get a Preview of Orpheus Telos. If you don’t see Thunder Reign in the Skill list, back out of the fusion and deselect all three Persona with / and select them again. This can take multiple tries to get Thunder Reign to appear on the Skill list. Once you see Thunder Reign in the Skill list, you can accept the fuse.
Now that you have Orpheus Telos with Thunder Reign get the following Skill Cards.
Sharp Student by leveling Zouchouten to level 19.
Sharp Student will reduce the chances of Elizabeth getting critical hits on us.
Mind Charge by leveling Atropos to level 59.
Mind Charge makes Thunder Reign do double the damage after charging.
Salvation by leveling Vishnu to level 87.
Used to fully heal as well as remove the poison status that Nebiros can inflict.
High Counter by leveling Siegfried to level 67.
Used to counter Elizabeth’s physical attacks at a 50% chance.
Elec Amp by leveling Odin to level 66 ( you should already have this because you used Odin to fuse Orpheus if you got lucky the Skill even got transferred to Orpheus).
Elec Boost by leveling Take-Mikazuchi to level 31.
Elec Amp and Boost are used to boost the damage of Thunder Reign.
Once you have all the Skill Cards, use them all on Orpheus Telos. Make Sure you don’t replace Thunder Reign by accident.
If you want you can get some + Stat cards from the Shinshoudo Antiques Shop in Paulownia Mall to boost Orpheus Stats. It’s not needed but it doesn’t hurt.
How to get a Persona with Auto-Maraku, Auto-Mataru & Auto-Masuku:
This Persona is not needed but it does help to make the fight easier. In this case, I used Kartikeya. But it really doesn’t matter which one you choose. The three skills are important. Here is how to get those skill cards:
Auto-Maraku (Marakukaja) by leveling Raphaek to level 68.
Marakukaja raises the allying party’s defense.
Auto-Mataru (Matarukaja) by leveling Melchizedek to level 68.
Matarukaja raises the allying party’s attack power. This includes both Physical and Magic attacks.
Auto-Masuku (Masukukaja) by leveling Horus to level 68.
Masukukaja raises the party’s accuracy and evasion.
Once you have all the Skill Cards, use them all on any Persona. You need to equip this Persona first, then start the battle. All of these Skills will be applied automatically at the start of the battle, you can change to Orpheus Telos right at the start and those three skills will still be active.
Recommended Equipment: Lucifer’s Blade (Male Character) or Vel Vel Muruga (Female Character), Armor of Light, Shoes of Light, and Divine Pillar:
All equipment listed here is optional but it is recommended because it’s the best equipment for this fight since the weapon will do a lot of damage. And Divine Pillar will reduce the Damage you get by 50%.
Lucifers Blade (if playing as Male Character): You get this by fusing Lucifer with a Nihil Weapon. Nihil Weapons can be a drop from Golden Shadows in Tartarus on any floor. You can fuse the Weapon with Lucifer at Shinshoudo Antiques in Paulownia Mall.
Vel Vel Muruga (if playing as Female Character): You get this by fusing Kartikeya with a Nihil Weapon. Nihil Weapons can be a drop from Golden Shadows in Tartarus on any floor. You can fuse the Weapon with Lucifer at Shinshoudo Antiques in Paulownia Mall.
Armor and Shoes of light: You can get those items by fusing Orpheus and Thanatos into Messiah, your Character needs to be level 90 for this. or else you won’t get Messiah. You only get one item per fuse, and it’s random what you will get. So be prepared to fuse those two Persona multiple times until you get both Armor and Shoes of light.
Divine Pillar: For this, you need to fuse Alilat. You only can do this once you maxed out the Empress Social Link. Fuse Skadi + Gabriel + Mother Harlot to get Alilat. You will get Divine Pillar automatically into your inventory.
Armageddon Fusion Spell
The Armageddon Fusion Spell can be obtained from the Shinshoudo Antiques Shop in Paulownia Mall. This shop is available from 6/9 on. The Armageddon Spell is very expensive it costs x99 Malachite and x10 Ruby to get one Armageddon Spell. You can find those items inside the Tartarus, the Ruby Item is quite rare though. The Armageddon Fusion Spell deals 9999 Damage guaranteed to all enemies. But you can also get it from the Hanged Man door inside the Paradigm Door (available from 1/1). During the fight, you need to let the Hanged Man spawn a Maya and cause an explosion. Now just finish the fight and you will get an Armageddon Fusion Spell.
10x Infinity Spells
Infinity spells are used to block the 9999 Megidolaon Elizabeth/Theodore will use every 8 Turns. You get 10x Infinity Spells by beating the Fortune & Strength door inside the Paradigm Door (available from 1/1).
Calculator
This isn’t a joke, you need a calculator to subtract the damage. Elizabeth/Theodore has 20,000 HP. And because you have to use the Armageddon Spell when they have 10,000HP, it is very important to take note of the HP or else Elizabeth/Theodore will completely heal when the health is below 10,000HP.
Now that you have everything, make sure to equip the Persona which has Auto-Maraku, Auto-Mataru & Auto-Masuku. Also make sure you have some healing items that give you HP and SP, at least 15x of each. The battle can now start.
To get to the fight, you need to be alone, and you need to enter Heaven’s door inside Tartarus and reach the 10th floor.
Elizabeth / Theodore Boss Fight Strategy
Elizabeth/Theodore will always use the same attack pattern no matter which difficulty you play it on and it will repeat after the 8th turn. Elizabeth/Theodore will use the following persona.
- Surt – Fire (First turn/start of the battle)
- Jack Frost – Ice (Second turn)
- Thor – Electricity (Third turn)
- Cu Chulainn – Wind (Fourth turn)
- Metatron – Light (Fifth turn)
- Alice – Dark (Sixth turn)
- Nebiros – Status ailments (Seventh turn)
- Masakado – Megidolaon (Eight turn)
Here is a small list of what to do in every turn (In this example I played on Beginner Difficulty)
Turn 1:
Once the battle starts, switch immediately to Orpheus Telos. Then use Mind Charge.
Turn 2:
Use Thunder Reign.
Turn 3:
Use Thunder Reign.
Turn 4:
Use Mind Charge.
Turn 5:
Use Thunder Reign.
Turn 6:
Use Mind Charge.
Turn 7:
Heal if needed or use Thunder Reign.
Turn 8 (after this turn you can repeat Turns from 1-8, except you won’t need to change to Orpheus Telos again) :
Use Infinity item.
This is what’s recommended to do. Of course, you can change things and probably have to as the fight goes on especially if you get hit by a strong attack or need to fill SP again. But make sure no matter what you do, that you use Infinity on Turn 8 because Elizabeth/Theodore will always use a Megidolaon that does 9999 damage and will instantly kill you if you don’t use Infinity. After every 8th turn, you can start from Turn 1 again. Make sure you subtract every damage Elizabeth/Theodore gets. To end this fight you will need a lot of luck. Once you get her health down to around 10,500HP, only use the Defend option on your Turn (except if you are on the 8th round of course, or if you are low on health on Turn 1-7). The goal is to get their health to 10,000 or below. You have to hope that Elizabeth/Theodore gets Self Damage from the passive High Counter Skill from Orpheus Telos. That’s why you need to use a calculator to subtract every damage Elizabeth/Theodore gets. Once their health is at 10,000 HP use the Armageddon Fusion Spell.
Congratulation you have beaten the hardest enemy in P3P.

Can’t you revive with the “Continue after Game Over” feature?
Leon says
You could but then Elizabeth/Theodore will keep using Megidoloan
Lava says
I think you can fight them in your first playthrough in portable, so no need to wait for NG+?
Leon says
Yeah, you can fight them in regular NG, just gotta beat the Reaper and then accept request #55 I believe.
ZodiacWolve says
Can you not get the Infinity and Armageddon Fusion spells when you redo Heaven’s Door in New Game+? I’ve been trying for a bit and no luck in getting them in my second playthrough.
Lava says
If you did it on your first playthrough, you cannot get them again as rewards are carried over from the vision quests. You should only do the vision quests in the playthrough you intend to fight these bosses
BDRook says
When I attempt to fuse using the Odin, Nidhoggr, and Scathach i get Michael instead of Orpheus Telos. How did you get it to work using those three?
Vago Mundo says
You can fuse them after you create Orpheus the first time in the Hexagon fusion pattern.
Jagmantis says
Make sure Odin is the highest level of the three
Brooke says
Do you mean you have to fuse Orpheus the first time in a hexagon fusion to be able to do a triangle fusion?? Because I’m having the same problem. Orpheus doesn’t appear in the triangle fusion.
Vago Mundo says
Would also highly recommend having a persona with Unbreakable Will. After the Alice phase, just swap to the Persona with Unbreakable Will and you’ll never have to worry about dodging status effects. Elizabeth doesn’t instant kill you for having it.
Zephiel says
This build leaves one empty skill slot and it absolutely has to be Unshaken Will from a level 93 Asura. Most of those statuses can prevent you from using the crucial infinity.
Ibrahimovic says
Is there anyone who gets Infinityx10 from Fortune&Strength Door? This guide always treats essential steps guaranteed and did not introduce the key, and assume things happen naturally.
I look up every guide online (including Japanese sites). The only hint is that one of my allies should be killed by the fortune wheel. Although I achieve that (tried both resurrecting him and let him stay dead; tried one dead and two dead), I still always get pearls. Hopefully someone will eventually figure that out after over 10 years after p3p released.
Ibrahimovic says
I finally got Infinityx10. Here is the suggestion:
Only ONE ally is killed by roulette explosion. I let the Dog out (pun intended) twice to cover two scenario – resurrected in the next turn, and remain dead in the end.
– “All allies dead” is not needed. No Red/Blue roulette requirement. “Critical hit only” is not a factor. All-out attack to finish is not a must. Mythbusted!
– “Whole team suffer status aliment” is not required. (Koromaru – Dog Died Twice, but never under status). I intentionally get my team panic before finishing Strength to cover another guess, i.e. kill boss right after status from roulette.
– No need to “get status from roulette and then be killed by Strength”. (Don’t waste time grinding the AOE by Strength after roulette explosion)
Brooke says
Why can’t I use those 3 personas in the triangle fusion to make Orpheus with those skills ??
Ryan says
For turns 2 and 3 are you supposed to use thunder reign back to back without mind charge or was that an error?
Ryan says
Also if we do use thunder reign on turn 3. You said she has thor out during that so wouldnt she just drain or repel it?
AJ Chimaera says
I could see wanting to squeeze in an extra Thunder Reign in the first 3 turns when you start the fight, if you lead with an Auto-Taru, but if the third is just going to get blocked by Thor as you say, seems best to do Thunder, Thunder, then Charge
AJ Chimaera says
OK I just tried what I mentioned above, and the key point is that her persona change only occurs _after_ you take your turn, and persists until her next turn. So on your third turn you can use Thunder Reign as Jack Frost is still active. If you do it the next turn, Thor will still be active until she takes her turn. So the originally stated order does makes sense to squeeze in the extra damage.
Pontiacsilverdome says
For the triangle fuse
Use
Nidhogger
Lucifer
Thor with Thu der reing
