When Aloy finishes the previous quest of the DLC-storyline (For the Werak), Ourea mentions that your next meeting point will be Longnotch, from where you will try to make another expedition to the mountain, after their first attempt has failed.
After some long conversations, you can finally enter the Cauldron. After some short climbing sequences and fighting off a few smaller machines, you will be standing at the point where the previous expedition has failed. Aratak and Ourea will give you two ways how to approach it – the execution is pretty much up to you, they don’t differ that much.
One of the machines in the area will be a Ravager, whose cannon you can shoot off with Tearblast arrows. This cannon will come in handy when defeating the Frostclaw which will come through the door you are supposed to go through. The cannon will take it down within seconds – and also it’s free ammo.
Briefly, after defeating the Frostclaw, you are supposed to watch a short Hologram scene from the past, which will give a bit more background about the situation we are all dealing with.
The Cauldron door is actually within reach right now, but it is obviously a bit guarded. Nothing too hard though; you will get the upper hand very quickly.
Once the few roaming machines guarding the door are dealt with, it’s time to override the Cauldron door. Or is it? Not quite – a Thunderjaw will enter the room from the same side you came from.
Remember to make use of the new DLC-weapons like the Stormslinger, which are actually very powerful and deal lots of damage. Using these will reduce the time to kill the machine significantly.
When the coast is clear, we can make a second attempt at overriding the door. Luckily, we won’t be interrupted again and will gain access to the inner part of the mountain.
Upon entering the next big room, a cutscene will play and Ourea remarks that the area has changed a lot since she was there many years ago. The Daemon seems to completely have taken over the Cauldron. This quest will end here, and the final one will automatically start. Also, we will obtain the second-last story-related trophy of this DLC, Completed the Second Expedition.
