This guide explains how to get more flasks in Elden Ring and how to upgrade them. You have two flasks: Flask of Crimson Tears for restoring health and Flask of Cerulean Tears for restoring mana. There’s also a hidden third flask called Flask on Wondrous Physick that allows you to create your own concoction.
To get more flasks you need to collect so-called Golden Seeds and redeem that at a site of grace.
How to Get More Health Flasks & Mana Flasks?
You start out with 4 Flasks. To get more flasks you must find Golden Seeds and use them at any site of grace (they are the fast travel points). See Elden Ring All Golden Seed Locations.
You can pick 1 Golden Seed as a Starting Keepsake during character creation. This will give you a free extra flask after redeeming it at a site of grace.
Because the game is open world you can explore many regions from the start and collect Golden Seeds right away. This will make the game easier, having more flasks means you can heal yourself more often and stay alive longer.
The following 4 regions and their Seeds are available from the start: Limgrave, Weeping Peninsula (south Limgrave), Stormveil Castle, Caelid (including Dragonbarrow).
These contain at least 9 Golden Seeds, or 10 if you pick one as the Starting Keepsake. That’s at least 5 extra flasks you can get right away, plus the 4 you start with, makes 9 total. Upgrades 1-2 cost one Seed each, Upgrades 3-4 cost two Seeds each, Upgrade 5 costs three Seeds. Again refer to Elden Ring All Golden Seed Locations for all their spots.
Additionally, you can get a special extra flask called “Flask on Wondrous Physick”. You can assign different effects to it at any site of grace, by default it restores health like an extra Flask of Crimson Tears. It is found at Third Church of Marika in Limgrave, a white glowing item pickup inside the church:
Assign more Flasks to Health or to Mana?
At any site of grace you can click on “Flasks” > “Allocate Flask Charges”. This lets you choose how many of your total flasks to assign to health or to mana.
If playing a melee build you should assign all flasks to health. Because this removes the mana flask you basically get one more health flask for free.
If playing a sorcerer, put the majority towards mana flasks. Since you will be shooting at enemies from afar you will usually be at a safe distance and not take many hits. For bosses with a lot of health you may need to assign all of your flasks to mana or else you will run out of mana before the boss can be defeated.
How to Level Up Flasks and Make them Restore more Health & Mana?
In addition to getting more flasks, you can also level them up. This makes it so they restore more health or mana with each use. To upgrade the flask level you need Sacred Tears. These are found in certain churches. In those churches you find statues with a white glowing item pickup below them. See Elden Ring Sacred Tear Locations.
You can get at least 5 of them from the start, thus allowing you to upgrade the Flasks to Level 5. It will upgrade both the Health Flask and Mana Flask simultaneously. They don’t need to be upgraded separately.
Where to upgrade Flasks?
Go to any site of grace (campfire / fast travel point), select “Flasks” > “Add charge to Flask”. If you hold enough Golden Seeds you can get +1 Flasks. Then you can allocate them to health flasks or mana flasks in the same screen. Select the other option “Increase amount replenished by flasks” to redeem Sacred Tears for making the flasks restore more health/mana with each use.
The more often you upgrade flasks, the more seeds you will need. The first two upgrades only need 1 Seed, the next two cost 2 Seeds each, then 3 Seeds and so on.
That is all there is to know about Flasks in Elden Ring. Keep upgrading them as you go through the game to make things easier. The more you have, the easier it gets.
