Introduction
Martha Is Dead is a dark first-person psychological thriller set at the end of the Second World War in Tuscany. The game follows the story of Giulia, a young woman who travels to Italy to recover the desecrated body of her sister, who was found, drowned and lifeless, on a secluded beach and investigate her death. The game deals with sensible topics such as depression, psychological trauma and child abuse and it makes considerable use of unsettling and gory images that may cause discomfort, which is why it features a Censor mode that can be toggled on in the Settings at any point during the game. Finally, and most importantly, the game still suffers from some occasional crashes, severe frame drops corrupted save files, so make sure you make frequent manual saves.
While almost all trophies are miscellaneous or collectible-related, nothing is missable because the game creates an auto-save every time you start a new chapter and never overwrites it. At the end of the game, when you’re back at the main menu, you can select which chapter you want to replay from the Load menu. Bear in mind that if you’re still missing any of the miscellaneous or collectible-related trophies that carry over multiple chapters (e.g. The Lovers), you need to start replaying from the chapter the requirements for those trophies start from. You need to overwrite and meet those trophies’ requirements again by replaying the required chapters in order to unlock these specific trophies. For example: if you’ve missed out on doing Lapo’s quest, you need to start replaying from Chapter 6 onwards.
Step 1: Play through the Story while Collecting all other Trophies
Play and enjoy the story. As you do, you can follow the Martha Is Dead Collectible Guide which contains all the collectible locations needed for trophies and when they become available. Don’t forget to also complete the side quest called Number 6934 spanning over multiple chapters for the The Lovers.
Chapter-by-chapter unlock order for trophies:
- Chapter 2 – The Body: The Emperor
- Chapter 4 – The Room: The Magician, The Sun, The Empress, The Hierophant, The World, The Chariot
- Chapter 8 – The Burial: The Hanged Man
- Chapter 9 – The White Lady: The Tower, Justice, The Moon
- Chapter 11 – The Graveyard: The Wheels of Fortune, The Stars, The Hermit, The Temperance, The Lovers
- Chapter 12 – Memories: The Devil, The Fool
- Chapter 13 – The Church: Death
Step 2: Load any Chapter to Mop Up Remaining Trophies (Optional)
At the end of the game, you can load any chapter from the Load menu in the Main Menu. Remember that if you’re still missing any of the miscellaneous or collectible-related trophies that carry over multiple chapters (e.g.

The Lovers Complete Lapo’s quest |
||
Chapter 6, 8, and 9 (or 11 after the power is restored).
» Martha Is Dead – All Morse Code Message Solutions (Number 6934 Side Quest) This trophy requires you to complete the Number 6934 side quest which spans over several Chapters. In Chapter 6, you will find Lapo’s corpse in the woods (unmissable, story-related). By his corpse there’s a letter you need to read which contains a number (6934). In Chapter 8, you’ll be able to use the telephone. Use the one from the room where Martha’s coffin was and dial 6934. A partisan will pick up and give you directions on what to do next. Then, you can decide to either help the partisans or reveal the plan to Giulia’s father. Regardless of your choice, you won’t be locked out of this trophy. Next, head down into the wine cellar and grab the scissors near the sewing machine. Then, open the map and head to the red cross found at the bottom to reach the telephone pole in the courtyard of the house near the small church. Interact with it to climb it and then cut the right wire when at the top. Climb down. Now head to the barns (open map for reference) and open the feed container to reveal the telegraph. We now need to compose the message. Select the following words: Town (third column), On Fire (second column), Tank (first column), Road (third column), Near (third column), House (first column) and Over (second column). Then to compose the message. Now follow the on-screen prompts to send the message. A short press will send a dot while a longer one will send a dash. This is easier said than done as the game gives you a visual confirmation every time you press the machine the right way. Now we will receive an answer and it’s time to decrypt it. The message’s solution is: Received need defensive line map leave near building beside river over and out. Now we need to take a photo of a defensive map that can be found in Giulia’s dad’s office. In Chapter 9 (or 11 after the power is restored), you will have the opportunity to take a photo of the map. Once the power is restored, head inside the darkroom and place the photo of the map on the device to start the development. Once the photo is fully developed, exit back outside and make your way to the graveyard, but turn left after the gate. Place the shot under the red door in the nearby house. Now go back to the telegraph near the barns and choose the words: Town (third column), On Fire (second column), Photo (second column), Map (third column), Positioned (third column), and Over (second column). Then, compose the message to receive an answer that needs decryption. The message’s solution is: Tank located over. Answer with: Received over and then send it. A new answer to decrypt will come in. The message’s solution is: Find weapons cache near woods over. Reply with Received over. A new answer to decrypt will come in: The message’s solution is: Place flag pole light close communications over and out. Now we need to find the weapons cache. However, this time don’t head to the circled area in the map. Instead, make your way to the lake and board the boat and head to the location in the map screenshot below. This will give you access to the bunker. Proceed through the bunker. It’s a bit of a maze but all tunnels lead to the exit in the woods. Don’t leave the bunker. Instead, go back inside and go straight ahead, left and then right to find a dormitory and grab the Swastika flag from the wall. Now retrace your steps to the bunker exit and approach the telegraph pole you climbed earlier in the story. Climb it and hang the flag on the right. This will complete Lapo’s quest and unlock the trophy. |

In Chapter 8, head downstairs. Then, as you approach the hallway, you should hear a telephone ring. Either head into the room with Martha’s coffin or go upstairs to pick it up and speak with the nanny. Then, interact with the phone again and call the Carabinieri and the Doctor. Speaking with the Doctor will trigger a new location for a new number, Giulia’s dad’s office. Go into Giulia’s dad’s office upstairs and read the letter on his desk to find number 1185. Use the phone next to Giulia’s room to dial 1185 and call the German Command in San Vincenzo a Torri. Now, head outside and enter the small church in the yard. Say your last good-bye to Martha and then interact with and read the letter on the cabinet opposite the coffin. This will reveal the number 6537, needed to call the cemetery. Head back inside and dial 6537 at the telephone. In Chapter 9, go to either telephone and dial 6938 to call Don Attilio and choose Lapo when given the option. Then, head downstairs and grab the telegram from the front door’s mailbox. Now use the telephone in the living room and dial 0782 to call the asylum and ask for more information when prompted. Now go back upstairs when the power is out and call the Town Hall from the telephone in the living room (6822 > Ask About Admission > Request Information). Tyger7 says
Might be worth noting there are chapters you cannot use the darkroom in. I’ve been reloading chapters trying to develope the map photo and am having a lot of issues with the mother being down there. Also when it becomes dark before you head to the church late game you cannot ride the boat.
The mother shows up in chapter 9 through 11 and once power is restored I was able to do the map part (super difficult in the dark) and then it wouldn’t let me on the boat.
Maybe just a glitch but I did not get the unmissable achivement for the puppet shows. I beat the game and it was not unlocked (Im on xbox).
Tyger7 says
Oh also for diary, just load up last chapter you still have it on i forget which and read all the pages. There’s only like 4 or 5. Dont need to pay attention to it while they are populating. Just read them all. I think I read them during Graveyard chapter.
On The Burial (loaded after beating game) i was able to do the entire lapo quest to get the achivement. No need to stress on power outage or the mother blocking you from the dark room.
Sheila Pimentel says
What is the deal after the white lady then she’s underwater and can’t get out. Days and days if swimming. Ugh
RavenScy says
I have gone through the Devil achievement dozens of times but can’t get it to pop. Is there a known bug for this?
