Old World Gadgets are a type of Collectible in Biomutant. For the Old World Gadgets trophy and achievement you are supposed to “find all 15” of them, but there are actually more than 15. Finding any 15 of these will do. There are some additional bonus gadgets. They are basically human-made objects that start a puzzle when interacting with them. Usually you must rotate some white and yellow wheels or power nodes. For example, connect the nodes in a breaker box to turn on the power. Even though they are called “Gadgets” a better word for them is “Puzzles”. They aren’t weapons or anything that goes in your inventory. All of them are rotation Puzzles that you must solve.
Most explorable areas (such as abandoned settlements) also have a completion counter and “Old World Gadgets” will count towards this counter. You only need to solve 1 Puzzle (1 Old World Gadget) of each type! For the trophy and achievement you must find 15 unique different types. It doesn’t count if you find the same type multiple times. Nothing required for the trophy is missable, and there are way more Gadget types than you need. You don’t actually need “all” of them, just any 15 types.
The best way to go about it is to play through the story first, which gives you several types automatically from story progress. Make a manual save after defeating the 4th World Eater. At this point you can still free-roam everywhere and use fast-travel to quickly collect them until the trophy unlocks.
This guide shows all Old World Gadgets in the order they are closest together, from south to north. The red waypoint on the images shows the spot. First we’ll go through the 15 Open World Gadgets that can be found at any time. Then we go through the Bonus ones that are tied to Main- and Side Quests (some of these also count towards the 15, allowing you to skip a few Open World ones or vice versa).
Open World Old World Gadgets
These are the 15 Old World Gadgets that trigger a side quest (see Journal Menu) when you get close to one of them. Then you can track the side quest to find more of the same type. For the trophy / achievement you only need 1 of each type! There are 3-5 of each type in the game but finding only 1 will suffice for trophy purposes. Remember to solve the puzzle after finding the gadget.

Bonus Old World Gadgets from Main Story & Side Quests
The following are some unique Old World Gadgets that are tied to Main Story quests (unmissable from story progression), or Side Quests (e.g. Pingdish to find the Cold Suit / Heat Suit / Biohazard Suit / Radiation Suit / Oxygen Suit). Unlike the first 15 they don’t trigger a side quest in the Journal to find more of them. Some of these Old World Gadgets only exist 1 single time in the entire game, or they only show up during 1 specific quest, or there are far more than 5 of them. If you didn’t get the trophy after finding the first 15 Old World Gadgets, then do some more of these until the trophy unlocks. Some of these seem to also add towards the trophy counter and some don’t for unknown reasons.
Gadget #16: Pingdish (Satellite Dish)
Location: Pingdish 6E. There are several Pingdishes in the game, you get side quests to them by entering any of the hazard areas on the map (Radiation, Biohazard, Cold, Heat, Anti-Oxygen). Then a side quest to find a protective suit against one of these extreme environments gets added to your side quest log. This will always lead to one of the Pingdishes. The one shown below is tied to having entered a Biohazard Zone (green), one of which can be found just south of that same Pingdish (the nuclear power plant with green fog around it).
Gadget #17: Twirly-Wheel (Valve)
Location: Murkadorpus Outpost. You go there and use it automatically during Main Quest “The Tribe War Begins”, but only if you sided with the Myriad Tribe (good) and made enemies of the Jagni Tribe (evil). This one doesn’t seem to count though, and of course there are more than 15 Gadgets needed for the trophy so it’s okay if you sided with the Evil Jagni and didn’t get this one.
Gadget #18: Pipes
Location: Subnautica Station, automatically used during Main Quest “Skronk Salvage” (talk to Goop in Subnautica Station to get this Main Story Quest from him).
Gadget #19: Power Nodes
Location: Subnautica Station, automatically used during Main Quest “Skronk Salvage” (talk to Goop in Subnautica Station to get this Main Story Quest from him).
Gadget #20: Cables
Location: Gumquack Hollow, automatically used during Main Quest “Gumquack Hollow” (talk to Goop in Subnautica Station and do his Main Quests until you get here).
Gadget #21: Bon-Bon Gummy (Gum Machine)
Location: Krossway 7J. Used automatically during Main Quest “Bon-Bon Gummy” (unmissable from Story Progression).
Gadget #22: Circuit Breaker Box
Location: Smilo Shopperia. You actually have to use it here during Main Quest “The Mekamjut” (unmissable). You will use lots of these throughout main quests to advance the story and there are more than 5 in the game. These don’t trigger a side quest but they sometimes count towards the area objective counter.
Gadget #23: Arcshooter (Artillery)
Location: Quirkquarp Outpost – only while conquering this Outpost. When you conquer the Outpost you automatically have to disable 3 artilleries (Main Quest “The Arcshooters”). This is an optional main quest, because you could conquer 2 other enemy tribes and then choose to end the conquest early and befriend all tribes. In this case you wouldn’t be able to conquer this outpost anymore. However, it’s not needed for the trophy so doesn’t matter if you missed this one.
Gadget #24: Mekafingro
Location: Mekastadium, automatically used during Main Quest “The Mekafingro” (unmissable part of Story).
More World Gadgets from Side Quests
There are lots more World Gadgets tied to Side Quests, particularly the ones you get from Side Characters. However, none of them seem to count or to be mandatory, so they shouldn’t matter overall.
Simply put, complete all Side Character’ Quests. For example, Nova has a Telescope Gadget, Gulp has a unique box rotation puzzle, Jumble also has another unique box etc. By this point you should already have the trophy though.
That’s more than enough Old World Gadgets for the “Old World Gadgets” trophy and achievement. You will probably get it before even finishing the 15 Open World Gadgets (because by that point you already have a few extra ones from the story).

Pretty sure this has glitched for me which is annoying as it’s the last one I need.
I’ve done literally every single one in this list and as mentioned, there’s more than 15 so yeah hope this gets patched ASAP as I was looking forward to getting it in the first week!
Michael says
Yea same, I have all other trophies done except this one. I hope when it is patched that I get the trophy, cause that is a lot of grinding to get all 15 again otherwise.
Roger says
the record for Gadget 14 is located next to a monitor which is also gadget 15 meaning you can get both but you do need cold resistance.
also you need seem to need to go to the grammar phone first, at least I did.
my main save was glitched so I had to upload my save to cloud, delete the game, reinstall disc version and turn network off then complete the trophy and reupdate my game and then redownload the save to get back to where I was.
Thanks for this guide, I use this site a lot and this really helped me out again. cheers. good to be done with another trophy hunt after returnal. shame all these games coming out with bugged trophies though.
Doug says
So I got the platinum with the original update but once I go back online the trophy goes away. It’s weird.
Roger says
Do a synch of your trophies and it will come through.
BodyChipper says
FWIW, there is a Mindmonitor at the same location as the record for #14, so it saves you an extra trip elsewhere. I’m not sure if you have to trigger the record side quest before you can find the record, but if so, it might be worth flipping the ordering to put the gramophone first in #14.
With that I now have the platinum. Thank you!
BodyChipper says
Sorry, this was already posted

playing on ps5 and have done every single gadget and it still hasn’t unlocked
David says
Ditto except the turret. I had to find every side character before that one popped. Last trophy i need but not worth playing again.
Wayne Davies says
I can confirm that this trophy does pop. It looks like only the old world gadgets that are marked on areas that can be cleared count.
