Goodbye, Night City is a Gig in Cyberpunk 2077 (CP77). This walkthrough will guide you through all steps of the Goodbye, Night City Gig (Side Quest).
Area: Badlands (South)
Quest Giver: Dakota Smith
Requirement: Street Cred 11
Mission Info: Gig Type: SOS Merc Needed
Sometimes you need a friend to lean on. Sometimes you need a friend to break you out of an immigrant detention center at the Night City-SoCal border. Smuggler Bruce Wellby required the latter. Bruce tried to cross the state line with hot cargo in tow, but it didn’t work out as planned and now he’s been chained up by Militech border security already several days. His buddy (and Militech employee), Archibald Crane found out about the situation through the grapevine. I’ll be damned if that cuckoo corpo actually decided to help his friend instead of toeing the corpo line. He contacted me to get Bruce out of the cage. You’re the missing element in this friendship triangle. Find Bruce, break him out, and escort him to his chombatta, Archie. And let’s make sure Militech doesn’t notice a thing. OK? Get to it. One more thing – Archie says not to kill any corpos. So, what can I say? The client’s always right.
Objectives:
- Reach Militech’s compound
- Do not kill any Militech personnel (Optional)
- Find Bruce inside the compound
- Talk to Bruce
- Escort Bruce outside the compound
- Take Bruce to the extraction point
- Wait for Archie
- Talk to Archibald
Starting Location: Goodbye, Night City
Gig: Goodbye, Night City starts in southern Badlands.
Reach Militech’s compound
This gig isn’t quite as simple as most others in the area. The person you’re rescuing is inside a closed compound, with drones and mines outside the walls, and snipers and autoturrets inside the walls. Just make sure you scan the area before you start walking around by the walls. To get into the base, you have to get through the perimeter fence, which can be done one of three ways. Most obvious is the giant rollaway doors at the front gate, which you can force open if you have Body (3). A little further to the right of the main gate is a broken section of fence you can pull out of the way with Technical Ability (5).
If for some reason you don’t qualify for either stat, you can go along the right side of the compound (which is also mined!) and you’ll find an open section of fence where you can gain entry. You can quickhack mines to disable them, shoot them to blow them up, or take your chances jumping over them.
Do not kill any Militech personnel
Make sure that you have a gun equipped with the Pax mod, or the cyberware implant that turns all of your weapons non-lethal. Don’t worry, the drones don’t count against this objective and Pax rounds still knock them down just fine.
Find Bruce inside the compound
Bruce is being held in a detention area inside the main building. You can force open the door if you have Technical Ability (6) or if you search the nearby desk, you’ll find a Personal Access Token that will automatically open the door for you.
Watch out for the autoturret just inside the room to your left!
Talk to Bruce
A little further into the room, you’ll find Bruce sitting on the ground next to a tent.
Escort Bruce outside the compound
Go through the door right next to the autoturret and you’ll find an empty Militech SUV that you can steal and drive straight out of the base with Bruce.
Take Bruce to the extraction point
Careful when you’re pulling up to the waypoint that you don’t accidentally cross into the AWACS zone, or you’ll have a bad day.
Wait for Archie / Talk to Archibald
Archie shows up and talks to Bruce, then they’ll drive off together to complete the gig.
This finishes Goodbye, Night City gig in Cyberpunk 2077 (CP77).

I took Bruce to the extraction point in my own car and couldn’t enter it anymore after the quest. Making the car respawn didn’t fix the bug, I had to reload a previous save

One extra thing to be wary of. If you are playing as a hacker and use breach protocol on their systems, make sure you don’t upload the friendly turrets daemon. That will, in the case of an alert, set the turrets to firing on the soldiers which violates the no-kill request.
