There are two different Happy Birthday Puzzles in Resident Evil 7. One of them is part of the “Happy Birthday” video tape. The other is part of the story.
Happy Birthday Video Tape:
After escaping the old house you will have to find two keycards to open the locked gate in the yard. On the way to one of those keycards you will come to a child’s room. Up in the attic is the “Happy Birthday” videotape. You will have to go here as part of the story so the room is unmissable!
Now watch the tape via a TV. It requires you to solve a puzzle.
1) Pick up CANDLE, walk to cake and listen to Lucas.
2) Open the code lock to get STRAW DOLL. Combination = Chainsaw Man – Raven on Hat – Baby. You can also see the combo by getting the telescope from the toilet, equipping it and running through the water in cake room, then look at screens through telescope and they will show the combination.
3) Get WINDING KEY from keg in cake room.
4) Burn STRAW DOLL at stove to get DUMMY FINGER.
5) Light CANDLE at stove. Burn the rope on the door with the candle. Enter room behind door and pick up BALLOON in the corner.
6) Put BALLOON on gas pipe to get QUILL PEN.
7) Put DUMMY FINGER, QUILL PEN and WINDING KEY on the mannequin where you got CANDLE.
8) It now writes the password “LOSER” on your arm. Enter password on lock in balloon room to get VALVE HANDLE.
9) Put VALVE HANDLE on the pipe in cake room. Light up CANDLE at stove and put it on cake.
And that’s the end of this version of the puzzle.
Story-Related Happy Birthday Room:
At one point of the story Lucas will lure you into the room that you saw earlier on videotape. There is a twist however! Your predecessor didn’t survive Lucas’ games but there is a way to trick him. The important part is not to get the Winding Key from the Keg. Opening the keg will spill oil on the floor that will burn you alive. The puzzle goes a little differently than the previous one.
1) Pick up CANDLE, walk to cake and listen to Lucas.
2) Light CANDLE at stove. Burn the rope on the door with the candle. Enter room behind door and enter code “LOSER”.
3) Grab VALVE HANDLE and use it in the cake room. Because you didn’t spill oil from the keg you will survive.
4) Lucas throws a bomb into the room. Break open the barricade in the corner and throw the bomb through the hole in the wall.
This is the end of it and you can continue with the story.

Did you succeed when you took out the winding key or did you continually blow up and burn to death as I am doing?

I learned that I didn’t have to take the key from the keg after being blown up (many times), but the lock on the valve door will not take the password ‘loser.’ Why Not?

So let’s say, you complete the puzzle the second time. What if you get the finger, the telescope, the balloon/pen, and the winder. Is there some other place on the map that these pieces could possibly be used? Like another secret puzzle that has yet to be solved?

So basically you just need to die at least one by burning to death in the fire, then when you restart, dont pull the wind key out and dont blow up the balloon, but instead go into the room with the cake and look to the right a little bit and you’ll see boards in the wall, you need to pull one off, then just put in the code “loser” into the balloon room door and get the valve wheel to turn off the water, then light the candle, put it in the cake, it will blow up but this time no fire, that makes Lucas mad and he throws a bomb into the room, take the bomb and put it through the hole in the wall you made earlier, but make sure to not hesitate and put the bomb in there because it will explode and kill you which restarts you all over again.
