Introduction
Welcome to the Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds DLC Trophy Guide & Roadmap. The DLC takes place in the Cut – the new territory of Horizon Zero Dawn and the scene of the expansion The Frozen Wilds. The area is seamlessly integrated into the game and can be traveled to like any other place on the map.
This DLC has a total of 21 new trophies, split across two DLC-trophy-lists. Here is a quick view on how to obtain them.
Some words of advice:
It is not recommended to play this DLC while you are on your New Game Plus on Ultra Hard, as this makes things much more complicated than they need to be. Especially the Hunting Ground challenges will get very tough to complete with a gold-time. Rather start this DLC on an older save-game from your regular playthrough and set the difficulty on Story or Easy.
Step 1: Play through the story
This DLC’s suggested level starts with level 30 and can be accessed at any time you want. If you have already completed the main campaign and are level 50, this will be a breeze, especially on easy difficulty. All of the expansions’ quests are labeled as side quests, so don’t be confused why you don’t see any main quests.
Step 2: Complete remaining side quests, activities and collectibles
Next to the Hunting Grounds Challenges, there are lots of side quests and errands to keep you busy and give you insight into the Banuk tribe, their habits and background. Just like in the main game, completed sets of collectibles can be traded in for rewards.
Step 3: Kill & Skill-related trophies
In case you haven’t obtained those trophies while playing normally, learn all the required skills and do the trophy-related kills on new machines.

||

||
Fully Improved Weapons Acquired the improved versions of three weapons from Varga. |
||
Varga can be met in the settlement of Longnotch in the south-eastern part of the Cut after the quest Into the Frozen Wilds. She has a total of three errands for you to complete, in which you gather parts for her which she needs to modify some of your weapons. See the individual errands for more information on them: |
||
All Quests completed Completed all side quests and errands in the Frozen Wilds. |
||
For this trophy you have to complete all the quests and errands listed below. Click on them for more information.
Story-related Side Quests Side Quests Errands |
||
All Activities completed Completed the Tallneck, Bandit Camp and Hunting Ground in the Cut. |
||
There is only one of each of these Activities to complete. Finishing the Bandit Camp and the Tallneck are required to progress the story anyhow. For this trophy however you will also need to obtain the Gold Medal on all three Hunting Challenges. The last challenge can only be played after the quest For the Werak. If you are Level 50 or above, these trials will be very doable in the required time. Take out your spear and fight all the machines in close-combat.
Below is a map which shows the three activities’ locations. |
The Frozen Wilds – Feats DLC Trophy Guide
First Spear Modification Applied a modification to your spear. |
||
You will obtain this trophy for finishing the Errand A Secret Shared. Finishing this Errand will allow you to upgrade your spear from the crafting menu just like any other weapon in the game. |
||
5 Dismount Strikes Killed 5 enemies using the Dismount Strike skill. |
||
The Dismount Strike kill is located on the very bottom-right corner of the skill tree and costs 3 Skill points to unlock (plus 6 to get there). Once you have obtained this skill, call your mount and head to an area with weak enemies like Watchers and kill them directly from your mount. To do so, press while close to them. This will make Aloy leap over on top of the enemies and ram her spear into their backs. |
||
5 Machine Types Repaired Used the Machine Repair or Mount Repair skill on 5 different types of machine. |
||
Mount Repair is the second skill on the left side of the tree and costs just 2 skill points, while Machine Repair requires 3 points. Once you have obtained these skills, get close to some damaged overriden machines and heal them with . This will cost you a few Metal Shards, but it is really cheap to do so. |
||
Killed 15 Scorchers Killed 15 Scorcher machines. |
||
The Scorcher is one of the new machines in the DLC and actually the first enemy you will encounter in the first quest Into the Frozen Wilds. Scorchers will be encountered in several quests and can also be found roaming in certain areas of the map. Make sure to activate the map-filter Machines at the very top to see all machines’ locations. The Scorcher is found in a few quests and you won’t have any problems getting 15 in total. If you wish to get this out of the way a bit earlier, you can replay the last Hunting Grounds Trial, as it features two of these. To see how many you have killed so far, check Statistics under the menu-tab Notebook. |
||
Killed 10 Frostclaws Killed 10 Frostclaw machines. |
||
Frostclaws are found in a few quests – the first one being For the Werak. You won’t have any problems getting 10 in total. If you wish to get this out of the way as early as possible, you can replay the last Hunting Grounds Trial, after the aforementioned quest, as this trial features two of these. To see how many you have killed so far, check Statistics under the menu-tab Notebook. |
||
Killed 6 Fireclaws Killed 6 Fireclaw machines. |
||
Fireclaws appear in the later quests of this DLC. Still, there are enough around that you don’t have to worry about not finding enough of these. The game requires you to kill a total of six over the course of two quests. In the final side quest of the DLC-storyline, The Forge of Winter, there is one Fireclaw you have to defeat. After this quest, a new errand will be added to your log, in which you have to kill all the five Fireclaws which are now spread over the whole map. To see how many you have killed so far, check Statistics under the menu-tab Notebook. |
||
All Control Towers disabled Disabled all Control Towers by overriding or destroying them. |
||
Control Towers are another new enemy introduced with this DLC and as the name suggests, they are stationary and mostly guarded by a few other machines. Apart from the ones you discover in missions, there are six more on the map, marked with a symbol just like the trophies’ icon. They become visible once you have defogged the map and have been in the general vicinity. Overriding or destroying them is no big deal, as their damage from the signal-waves is actually quite low. The only minor threat is from the other machines lurking nearby. The towers will also heal the machines, so depending on the enemies nearby, you might want to deal with the towers first, if you can get there undetected. See the picture below for an example of a tower – in this case, guarded by Shell Walkers. If you have trouble seeing the corresponding icons on the map, deactiave all other symbols and toggle this one on and off quickly, so you can see it flashing on screen, more or less. |
||
All Pigments found Found all of the Pigments in the Cut. |
||
Pigments are a new sort of collectible exclusively found in the Cut. They are placed inside rather large stone formations and you have to gather all nine unique Pigments. These can be traded in the settlement Song’s Edge to the merchant/artist Sekuli, who is overlooking the whole village from above. A map with the locations of all Pigments can be bought from merchants for the price of 200 Shards and a Goat Bone. Buying the map will show you the general locations on the in-game map. Simply travel there and use your focus to scan your surroundings and get the exact spot of them.Here is an example of the first Pigment which can be found just north of the settlement Song’s Edge. This is the location of Sekuli, where the Pigments can be traded for goods – just like the collectibles from the main game. |
||
All Animal Figurines found Found all of the Animal Figurines in the Cut. |
||
Just like in the main game there is a set of Figurines to collect, which can be traded for goods. The DLC features a total of six of these. A map with the locations of all Animal Figurines can be bought from merchants for the price of 200 Shards and a Badger Bone. Buying the map will show you the general area on the map. Simply travel there and use your focus to scan your surroundings and get the exact spot of them. See the picture below for an example of a Figurine. The Figurines can be traded at the Hollow Hall for rewards. It is located close to the campfire west of the hot springs. |
||
First Bluegleam Trade Traded Bluegleam for a special weapon or outfit. |
||
Bluegleam is a new resource in this expansion. It can be obtained through looting or as a mission reward. You will get about 30 Bluegleam for finishing all missions, so harvesting it is quite optional. A map with locations to harvest Bluegelam can be bought from merchants, though. It costs 250 Shards, a Goat Skin and a Badger Bone. The cheapest item you can purchase is the Banuk Champion Bow for 12 Bluegleam from the merchant with the blue symbol in Song’s Edge. |
||
All Frozen Wilds Skills Learned all of the new skills in the Frozen Wilds. |
||
The Frozen Wild features a fourth skill tree called the Traveler. Aloy can learn a total of eight new skills and you will need 18 skill points to obtain them all. If you had unspent points left over from the main campaign, you can directly invest them in the new skills. Some skills are needed for certain trophies of this DLC. |
||
Reached Level 60 Reached player level 60. |
||
The latest patch raised the Level Cap from 50 to 60. You don’t even have to own this DLC to get this trophy. If you already start this DLC at Level 50, you should likely earn enough XP to be Level 60 before having obtained all other trophies of this expansion. If not, replay the last Hunting Grounds Trial as it features some big enemies which yield decent XP. |
Vinster says
The “All Activities completed” trophy did not unlock for me in the Cut, even though I activated the Tallneck and climbed it to overwrite it (reveal Cut map), cleared out the only Bandit Camp and got at least a 3rd place in the 3 challenges in the Hunting ground, as well as first place in Ikrie’s challenge.
Are you sure of it? Or do I need to get 1st place in all the challenges?
chrizzi says
same here… 🙁
D Dime says
Yeah , Apparently you need to get Blazing sun to Unlock it
I’m playing on my NewGame+ Save game which is Ultra Hard difficulty and its Impossible to get Blazing Suns :\
dalailama1989 says
Yes, just like in the main game, “Completing the Hunting Grounds” means to get all gold medals / blazing suns. 🙂
On easy difficulty, these three are very easy to obtain, especially if you are already above Level 50. If so, just run through them and kill the machines with your spear in close-combat.
DJB says
I found it quicker to restart a New game on Easy and run through just for this trophy. The DLC Blazing Suns on the harder difficulties seems very hard.
dalailama1989 says
I have now included a short disclaimer that you rather shouldn’t play this DLC on your NG+ on Ultra Hard but rather on an older save on easy. Hopefully, this prevents other players from running into the same unfortunate situation.
Ben says
Has anyone got 100% completion yet? I’ve done everything I can it I’m sitting on 97.09?
dalailama1989 says
Bought all outfits and weapons?
Crafted the ammo pouches for the new weapons?
Did all Weapon Tutorials?
David says
Unless im mistaken there is at least one missable trophy here.
At one fire claw site there is two at the same time, you can override one and let them fight until one dies…which doesnt count as your kill.
Ive ended the quest related to fireclaws having only killed 5 of them, so unless there is more roaming around ive missed the trophy. (I can just play ut again i know)
Please correct me if im wrong.
Zeekachu says
the Mods doesn’t not have any trophy.
Zeekachu says
sorry misread that, yeah you need to kill both and not use override.
David says
Actually no its not misable, theres a fireclaw site in the top right of the map. I got the trophy there. Not sure how many times a fireclaw will spawn but one should be enough anyway.
JT says
Definitely use over ride and let them attack each other. Easy to mop up the winner after.
Then find the fireclaw spawn at top of map. Much easier to take one out alone than the pair at once. So in summary get 1 kill during main story, 4 whilst completing out of the forge quest (because of only one kill counting when you encounter the pair and over ride one.) Sixth and final one for the trophy in top of map. This one spawns continuously as long as you travel to and back from campsites with enough distance.
And I promise you that the blazing suns are definitely achievable on NG+ ultra hard. You going to need Sylens Spear with 2 x 53 or 55% damage mod for up close work. and all the adept bows tinkered with for specific enemy types. Triple shot hard point arrows on adept bow with 4 x damage mods in the 50s is a winner too.
Essentially you need to do a monumental amount of farming for shards and rare mods and animal hearts before attempting.
Zeekachu says
you need to get 1st on the hunting grounds
Zeekachu says
you should mention the specialty merchant in Merdian can sell treasure boxes that contains Bluegleam ” 5 treasure boxes”
Luke says
You don’t unlock Drained the Flood for finishing Waterlogged. You actually have to do what the description says which is not a requirement for the quest.
egcmx says
i already got 100% completion for frozen wilds progression. but can’t get one trophy – all towers disabled. already cleared all in the map nothing else missing. how can i get the trophy?
egcmx says
found the last one. it’s not appearing on map unless you walked near it. located east of song’s edge, in between the first campfire and the second campfire near a scorcher site. took it down and the trophy popped out.
