Final Fantasy XV Trophy Roadmap
- Estimated trophy difficulty: 4/10 (when playing on easy difficulty)
- Approximate amount of time to platinum: 40-60 hours (when playing on easy difficulty)
- Offline Trophies: 51 (42, 5, 3, 1)
- Number of missable trophies: 0 (can go back everywhere after the story to mop up side quests etc.)
- Glitched trophies: 0
- Does difficulty affect trophies?: Yes, you have to defeat Ifrit on Normal difficulty (final mission). You can play on easy up to this point and change the difficulty to normal in game options for just this one fight. Then change it back to easy afterwards. It’s perfectly fine to start on easy difficulty, it won’t void any trophies.
- Minimum Playthroughs: 1
Step 1: Complete the Main Story, Pay Attention on Skills (Photography & Survival), Defeat Ifrit on Normal Difficulty, Purchase 50 Cheapest Abilities
You can play the game any way you like because nothing is missable and you can return to every place after the story. Since lots of things will be locked until you have progressed in the story it would be best to focus on the main missions. You can do side quests along the way if you want. They will help yield some good XP and you must do 80 side quests for a trophy anyway. Side quests can still be done after the story is over, none of them are missable.
Your main priority should be the story. You’ll unlock a very large chunk of trophies without even trying. All the combat related things should come naturally within the first few hours of the game. They are very simple and you’ll get text popups with instructions for certain combat maneuvers.
Look out for the gold trophies “Chosen King” & “Self-Mastered“.
- For Chosen King you have to defeat Ifrit on Normal difficulty (final mission). You can play on easy up to this point and change the difficulty to normal in game options for just this one fight. It’s perfectly fine to start on easy difficulty, it won’t void any trophies. He will respawn after finishing the story. So if you miss this opportunity just complete the game. You’ll be asked to create a manual save after the credits. Reload this save game and Ifrit will respawn so you can fight him again.
- For Self-Mastered buy the cheapest 50 abilities. This will cost around 600AP in total. Don’t buy the expensive ones for 99 or 333AP. You should get the Exploration abilities early because they provide AP bonuses and pay for themselves.
Furthermore, there are two skills you should keep in mind throughout the game: reaching level 10 in Photography and Survival.
These two skills are by far the most time consuming trophies to unlock. If you don’t work on them from the beginning you may end up having to farm them for a very long time. Here’s what you should do:
- Photography: Prompto will randomly take photos throughout the game. Each photo increases this skill a tiny bit. Even though it passively increases over time you can actively do something to speed up the process. First buy the ascension “Snapshot” which lets Prompto take a picture in combat for one tech bar. Now use this skill in EVERY combat encounter. Always use it when you have one tech bar. Also buy the technique ascensions “Tech Strike”, “Tech Damage”, “Quick Tech”. They will make your tech bar recharge much faster so you can take more photos. If you fail to do this you’ll probably end up with level 7/10 after all other trophies are done and have to farm enemy groups for 20+ hours. So this can cost you a lot of time if you don’t work on it from the beginning.
- Survival: The survival skill is based on how many steps you have walked. Every step you take increases this skill just a little bit. Combat doesn’t matter for this. It often seems tempting to use fast travel, use a chocobo or drive your car. But if your target is within half a mile you should always be walking/running to work on this skill. There’s also a trick to sprint infinitely – see How to sprint Infinitely. After I was done with all other trophies my survival was 7/10 and I had to walk in circles for 20 hours. So this can end up being extremely time consuming if you are a lazy walker throughout the game.
The other skills can quickly be farmed.
You can also use this YouTube Playlist along the way: Final Fantasy XV Trophy Playlist
Step 2: Build Regalia Type-F, Get 13 Royal Arms
Certain things are only accessible after the story. This includes the Regalia Type-F and finding 13 Royal Arms. Now is the time to get them. After beating the game you’ll be asked to create a manual save. When loading this save game you return to where you fought Ifrit. Go to a lodging and use Umbra to return to Lucis and Altissia. This way you can go back everywhere in the open world and finish up sidequests and other tasks.
Step 3: Do 80 Sidequests
There are far more than 80 sidequests. In your quest list they are shown in blue color. Always do the Photo Ops when they come up. They are very easy and short. Dungeons often count as sidequests too (building the Regalia Type-F and getting all Royal Arms will also count as side quests). None of the side quests are missable, you can do them all after the story in free roam.
Step 4: Max out all Skills to Level 10
If you followed the tips from Step #1 you should already be done with the Photography and Survival skills by now. Please refer to these trophies for more info on the skills: Angling Expert, Survival Expert, Photo Expert, Cooking Expert.
Step 5: Defeat Adamantoise
The adamantoise is a level 99 enemy with over 5 million health. You should keep this trophy for last. See trophy “Tortoise Toppler”.

Chosen King Defeated Ifrit on Normal difficulty. |
||
For this you must finish the Ifrit Boss Fight on normal difficulty. This is one of the endbosses in the final story mission. If you are playing on easy you will “miss” this. Make sure you change the difficulty to normal in the game options before this fight! After the credits the game will ask you to save the game. When you load this manual save you will respawn before the Ifrit boss fight and can challenge him again. It’s okay if you played the rest of the game on easy up to this point. You can change the difficulty at any time before the fight. This is right after the Behemoth King miniboss. Make a manual save after the Behemoth King and change difficulty to normal. Phase 1: Ifrit will be sitting on his throne. Use warp-strike to attack then jump back immediately. Repeat a few times to deplete his health bar. Phase 2: Ifrit is now walking around. When he is shielded by fire he doesn’t take much damage. Wait for him to turn into his normal form and attack. Just dodge his attacks and get behind him. Use Blindside team attacks from behind and he will go down very quickly. You could also spam warp-strike attacks just like in the first phase (but they don’t do as much damage). When his health is low you must hold L2/LT to finish the fight. |
||
Learner’s Permit Drove the Regalia. |
||
In the first story chapter you’ll have to repair the Regalia. Now drive it manually and the trophy unlocks.
Chocobo Jockey Rode a Chocobo. |
||
To unlock Chocobos you must first reach story chapter 3. Step 1: Talk to Wiz at the Chocobo post (Duscae Map). When arriving in chapter 3 a side quest called “Friends of a Feather” will be marked there automatically. Accept his hunting quest “A Behemoth Undertaking” and kill the Behemoth (marked as mission target). Step 2: After killing the Behemoth you must return to Wiz and talk to him again. You can now interact with Rent-a-Bird machines. They are found at most outposts and parking spots. It costs 50 Gil per day to rent a Chocobo. You can press R2/RT to whistle for your chocobo wherever you are. After the rental period has expired the Chocobo will run back to its outpost and you must rent a new one. You can also rent for several days at once. |
||
Regalia Pilot Flew the Regalia Type-F. |
||
In order to unlock the Regalia Type-F Modification you must first beat the story (finish all 14 chapters and defeat the endboss). After beating the story you can visit a lodging and call Umbra to visit the open world and mop up everything you haven’t done. Now do the following: Step 1: Infiltrate the Formouth Garrison in Leide. When you go near the Garrison you’ll see a new side quest called “Formouth Garrison” popping up. You can do this as early as story chapter 8 but the enemies are level 50+. It would be best to do this after the story when you’ve grown stronger (and you can’t unlock the Regalia Type-F until after the the story anyway, so no point in doing it early). Step 2: After finishing the Formouth Garrison you’ll receive an item “Strange Engine”. This triggers a new side quest “Into Unknown Frontiers”. All you gotta do is deliver the part to Cindy at the Hammerhead outpost. There are actually 3 of these strange parts, but two are unmissable story unlocks (Warped Wings from the Garrison in Chapter 5, Unstable Stabilizer from the Garrison in Chapter 6, Strange Engine from Formouth Garrison Side Quest). When you’ve done all of the above Cindy will upgrade your Regalia with the Type-F modifcation. A fancy batmobile-styled car that you can fly like a jet. To unlock the “Regalia Pilot” trophy / achievement you must put it in manual drive, gain some speed and press Circle (PS4) / B (XB1) to take off. |
||
Quadruple Threat Equipped four weapon slots. |
||
You’ll start out with 3 weapons. Find or buy another one and equip it in the “Gear” section. Should come naturally as one of your first trophies.
Faithful Heir Collected thirteen royal arms. |
||
Each Royal Arm has unique attack patterns and stat boosts. They can be used in combat by Noctis. They are more powerful than normal weapons but using them depletes your own health. Even if you don’t want to use these weapons you should equip them for the stat boosts they provide. Furthermore, the Royal Arms bypass all enemy resistances and always deal full damage (no enemies are resistant to them). The first 7 Royal Arms are automatic / unmissable story unlocks. You get them automatically during main quests. The remaining 6 Royal Arms are from dungeons and Royal Tombs which you must find on your own. None of them are missable! There is free roam after finishing the story and you can go back everywhere. The dungeons are fairly difficult, one of them being for level 55+. If you want you can do them before leaving for chapter 9 but it will be very difficult. I highly recommend you finish the story first to get stronger. Remember you can switch to easy difficulty in the game options at any time (in easy mode you cannot die). TIMELINE: #1 – Sword of the Wise – 0:05 |

Press the touchpad and go the “Ascension” section. Here you will see several skill trees, such as Combat, Exploration etc.
You must purchase 50 abilities in total. Buy everything for 24AP or less (the cheapest ones for 8 / 16 / 20 points first). It takes 600AP in total. Get the exploration based abilities early in the game. They provide AP bonuses for trivial tasks such as driving in your car or riding chocobos. Those will pay for themselves. You can also save up on AP, making a manual save for this trophy and then reloading it to buy the good abilities you actually want to use. The best way to farm AP is by killing enemies with Warp-Strike. Whenever you do this it gives you 1AP. When you are at a higher level (e.g. after beating the story) you can keep summoning enemies by pressing R2 and D-Pad Right. You should be able to kill them in one hit with the Warp-Strike. This will give you tons of AP very quickly. Camping and doing side tasks for your friends also yields AP. |

Angling Expert Reached maximum fishing level. |
||
To increase your fishing skill you must catch fish. Every fish you catch increases the skill. The best place to farm this is at Vesperpool Lake, East Bank. This is in the north-western corner of the Cleigne Map. There’s a big lake here with the name Vesperpool on the map. There’s also a fishing store here that sells some of the best fishing gear in the game. Purchase the upgraded Rod & Reel here (costs ~20,000 Gil). This will make it a lot easier to catch larger fish. Now keep fishing at this spot. There are a bunch of pretty rare fish types you can catch. Rare and large fish give a greater skill increase than small fish. Just catch everything you can, as fast as you can. The lure “Stinker: Great Maiboro” works really great here (purchased from the fishing shop at the lake). The trophy doesn’t unlock instantly, you have to visit a campfire first. It takes around 4 hours of non-stop fishing to max out this skill to rank 10. Some more guides that may help you with this: |
||
Survival Expert Reached maximum survival level. |
||
The survival skill is based on how many steps you have walked (of course running counts too). Every step you take increases this skill just a little bit. The more distance you have traveled on foot the higher this skill will be. Combat encounters do not increase this skill. Even though it increases passively you should give this trophy your full attention from the beginning! It often seems tempting to use fast travel, a chocobo or your car. But if your target is within half a mile you should always be walking/running to work on this skill. There’s also a trick to run infinitely – see How to Run Infinitely. This and photography are by far the most time consuming trophies to unlock. It’s almost certainly gonna be one of your last trophies. After I was done with all other trophies I had barely reached level 7/10 in this skill. So what I did was to rubber band the controller sticks and run in circles for many hours. I recommend you do the same if this is the last thing you’re missing. This way you can go away and do other stuff while your character keeps running. Just make sure you are running in a safe and open area such as outposts or camps. The trophy doesn’t unlock instantly, you have to visit a campfire first. It takes around 30 hours of walking to max out this skill to rank 10. |
||
Photo Expert Reached maximum photography level. |
||
The photography skill increases every time Prompto takes a picture. Prompto will randomly take photos throughout the game. Each photo increases this skill a tiny bit. You can actively do something to speed up the process (and you really should, otherwise you’ll end up having to farm this for many hours). While driving around you’ll sometimes see so called Photo Op side quests popping up near the road. These give a larger skill increase than normal pictures so do as many of them as possible. Alternatively, you can run in circles for 60 hours and this should max out passively. The good thing is that you can combine the circle running with the survival skill. The bad thing is that it takes forever because Prompto won’t take many pictures. Make sure you are running in a safe area, such as an outpost. I did go to a lodging once an hour to scroll through Prompto’s pictures (he can only have 15 at a time… probably not needed to check on them but it’s safer for tracking purposes). The trophy doesn’t unlock instantly, you have to visit a campfire first. It takes around 20 hours to max out this skill to rank 10 using Snapshot in combat encounters / 60 hours when running in circles. |
||
Cooking Expert Reached maximum cooking level. |
||
The cooking skill increases whenever Ignis cooks a meal at camp. Camps get marked on the map after talking to tipsters. Now you just need to find new ingredients and recipes. A quick way to learn new recipes is by buying all ingredients from general stores. Do this whenever you come across such a store. After finding all ingredients for a meal Ignis learns the recipe. More recipes unlock as you level up this skill. The fastest and cheapest method is to buy Luncheon Meat from the general store in Lestallum. It costs 100 Gil per piece. This will let you cook the meal “Mystery Meat Sushi” (it needs only this one cheap ingredient). Stock up on 50+ pieces of Luncheon Meat and cook it at a campfire. You can immediately revisit the camp and cook the same meal over and over again. It takes around 20 minutes to max out this skill to rank 10. |
||
Just Hangin’ Around Performed first point-warp suspension. |
||
Sometimes during combat you can press Triangle to warp to certain places. Do this once to earn the trophy. You actually get text popup for this early in the game. This will unlock naturally without trying.
Combat trophies cannot be unlocked in the training. |
||
Brother-in-Arms Issued first ally command. |
||
During combat press L1 and a directional button (left, right, up) to use a command. It takes a little while for the tech bar to fill up. When you’ve got one tech bar segment you can use a command. Will unlock naturally.
Combat trophies cannot be unlocked in the training. |
||
Blind Spot Performed first blindside link. |
||
A blindside link is when you attack an enemy from behind and an ally does a co-op attack with you. This will unlock naturally without trying. Just attack an enemy from behind.
Combat trophies cannot be unlocked in the training. |
||
Noct You Like a Hurricane Initiated first link-strike after parrying an attack. |
||
Sometimes during combat you’ll see a button prompt to press Square. This will let you block an enemy attack and time slows down for a short moment. After blocking the attack with Square you must hit Circle (attack button) to perform a counter. Now you have to get lucky that one of your allies does a co-op counter with you to make it count as a “link-strike”. Just do this a few times and you should get it. Will probably come naturally without trying.
Combat trophies cannot be unlocked in the training. |
||
The Power of Kings Called forth the Armiger for the first time. |
||
You unlock the Armiger during the Titan boss fight in chapter 4. Press L1+R1 at the same time to use it. The Armiger bar (blue circle in bottom left corner) has to be filled up to use it.
Magical Worker Crafted a spell for the first time. |
||
Press touchpad and select Elemancy. Click on an empty Magic Flask and select a spell you want to craft. Hit R1/L1 to change the spell power, then select “Craft”.
Combat trophies cannot be unlocked in the training. |
||
Black Mage Used magic for the first time. |
||
See “Magical Worker” for crafting magic spells. Once you’ve crafted one press touchpad and go to gear section. Put a magic spell (fire/ice/electricity) in one of your inventory slots. Now use it during combat by pressing the attack button with the spell equipped.
Combat trophies cannot be unlocked in the training. |
||
Divine Intervention Summoned one of the Six for the first time. |
||
In chapter 5 you learn how to summon divine beings to help you in combat. During very lengthy enemy encounters, especially when your teammates have all died and you are in big trouble, you will sometimes see the L2 button prompt. Holding L2 for a few seconds will summon a powerful god to crush your enemies. You will see the L2 prompt more frequently at the end of the game.
There are certain story sections where you have to hold L2 to advance. These don’t count for the trophy. You have to get lucky during a random battle and use it. |
||
High Five for Justice! Played JUSTICE MONSTERS FIVE for the first time. |
||
You can find Arcade Pinball machines in Crow’s Nest Diners. These diners are at outposts and parking spots all over the map. |
||
Immortal Photobomb Caught an image of Gentiana in a photo. |
||
You meet Gentiana in chapter 5. After meeting her Prompto will randomly make a photo of Gentiana (this can happen anytime after meeting her in chapter 5). When resting at a camp of lodging go through Prompto’s photos. Just scroll through them real quick and if one of Gentiana is there it’ll unlock the trophy.
Pictures of Gentiana can only be shot between 6:00AM and Midnight. She only shows up in Lucis (mostly Duscae). She does not show up in Altissia or in the future. Traveling for a very long time without resting increases the odds getting the picture. You won’t actually see Gentiana in the world, she only shows up on Prompto’s photos. |

Sidequests are shown in blue color on your quest list. Quest givers are shown as a question mark on the world map. Most of them are simple fetch quests. Just go to the target area, pick something up and return it to the quest giver.
There are other very short quests, such as:
There are far more than 80 quests. In the beginning the number of available quests will be quite limited. But after finishing the story you will have access to everything and unlock even new quests. You can get everything after the story so don’t worry if you missed some quests on your main playthrough. You can come back for them later, nothing is missable. To not waste any time you should finish the story first and get the 13 Royal Arms. The reason for this is that you run into lots of quest givers during main missions. Just talk to them to activate the quest and come back for it later when you’ve grown stronger. Some of the Royal Arms require you to play Dungeons which automatically count as side quests. If this doesn’t unlock at exactly 80 side quests do not worry. Just play a few more and it should unlock. You can count the number of side quests (blue) in your quest list. Press Triangle in your quest list to see already completed quests. Side activities in green color and monster hunts in yellow color do not count for this. |
||
My First Hunt Completed first hunt. |
||
Go talk to any restaurant owner (e.g. at Hammerhead outpost where you meet Cindy). They have a dialogue option for hunts. Activate one hunt, go kill the monsters, return to quest giver and you’re done.
Tortoise Toppler Defeated the adamantoise. |
||
The adamantoise is a huge level 99 Megaboss. It is found in Leide after beating the story. Here’s how you can locate & fight it. Step 1: After beating the game go talk to Cindy at Hammerhead Outpost. She will give you a quest called “Let Sleeping Mountains Lie”. After beating the main story you can create a save game during the credits. Load that save game, go to a lodging and call Umbra to travel back to the open world. Step 2: Complete Cindy’s Quest “Let Sleeping Mountains Lie”. This will awaken the Adamantoise. Just follow the quest markers. Step 3: Go talk to the restaurant owner at Hammerheard outpost. He has a level 99 monster hunt called “Lonely Rumblings in Longwythe”. Accept this quest and you will get to fight the Adamantoise. Boss Fight Tips:

Yes but too much work to get it, not worth it for the trophy.

Based on the trophies you’ve missed, I think it’s a synchronisation issue. I missed out on all trophies for Uncharted 1 because my wifi kept getting disconnected and I didn’t let my trophy information load. I only found out after beating the game when the trophy info came in but nothing actually activated.
Considering all the trophies you missed were all the initial ones, I think that’s what happened. You could try starting a new game and doing all of that again. It may work but I’m not sure.
Nowadays, before I start a game, I always make sure to have the trophy info loaded in before I actually start the game in fear this problem might repeat.

Anybody know a good place post game to summon astrals?

Wait around in a battle long enough and you’ll get the chance to summon Ramah. I’ve summoned him loads of times. If you’re near water then you have a chance of summoning Leviathan. When you hear the music change and the atmosphere looks like the air is sparkling, hold down L2 (or whatever that button is for xbox) long enough and it will activate.
